NMWAIT will consist of six (6) membership committees with oversight provided by the Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
Each committee will have a direct report that will assist the members in their chosen committee.
There will not be a limit on the number of committees one member can participate in. We encourage member participation within the association.
Membership and Benefits Committee:
The Membership Committee is in charge of actively recruiting new members, establishing methods for reaching out to potential members, and aiding staff with membership lead generation. The membership committee's scope has been expanded to include individuals from the business and public sectors.
Marketing and Social Media Committee:
The Marketing & Social Media Committee will support the staff in promoting NMWAIT's community, events, and resources, as well as establishing an engaging platform for members to participate across social media, internet and print media, newsletters, and other marketing venues. A director and 4–6 members will make up the committee, which will plan and implement NMWAIT's marketing, social media, and public relations strategy. Additional volunteers may be enlisted to assist with content creation and implementation.
Programming and Events Committee:
The Events Committee is a standing committee whose objective is to ensure that the organization is visible to the public in a variety of ways. The President reviews the membership of the Events Committee. The Executive Director, the Events Committee Director, and the Committee Members will collaborate to evaluate committee needs and to develop new and potential committee members.
Community Outreach and Book Club Committee: The purpose of the Community Outreach and Book Club Committee is to encourage members to use their skills and knowledge to support charities or other philanthropic endeavors that may also benefit NMWAIT or the communities where they live and work.
The Book Club is based on reading popular, informative, thought-provoking texts relevant to the mission and goals of NMWAIT. Critical thinking is emphasized as we read, form text-based opinions, share those opinions, and then analyze and learn from other people's opinions.
Mental Health and Wellness Committee:
The Mental Health & Wellness Committee is dedicated to increasing emotional, psychological, physical, spiritual, and social well-being by providing information, activities, and services that promote mental health awareness and holistic health from an equitable perspective to serve the diverse needs of our members. By incorporating a number of developmental workshops and presentations, NMWAIT encourages directors and members to support the mental health and wellbeing of those in the transportation industry, as well as foster personal growth.
Grassroots Committee:
NMWAIT intends to form a Grassroots Committee to educate and empower Americans to take control of the country's policy direction and demand that our government—at the federal, state, and local levels—enact policy reforms to better the lives of minority women in all sectors of the transportation industry. It will undertake and disseminate research on a wide variety of issues, as well as push policies that will motivate people to take action and empower them with the tools and information they need to do so.
