We're Recruiting Volunteers for our Board of Directors!
Maggie's Toronto Sex Workers Action Project is one of Canada's oldest by and for sex worker justice organizations serving community in Toronto's downtown east end through drop-in programming, outreach, social and political advocacy. This year we are expanding our Board of Directors and recruiting for 10 new board members. Our Board of Directors provides governance and oversight to the organization; assists in program & event development and facilitation, committee development & facilitation; and oversee the advocacy work and broader political direction of the organization. Our Board roles operate in 2-3 year terms.
What We're Looking For:
We are looking to recruit folks with skills in: fundraising, grant writing, human resources, project management, group facilitation, community organizing, and e-commerce. Previous governance/Board experience is an asset, but not necessary. Successful candidates will be given training around the organization's history, current projects and mandate. Our bylaws require a majority of our Board of Directors to have lived experience in sex work - we will be prioritizing applicants from sex-work backgrounds with limited capacity for allies with particular professional skillsets (e.g. legal background, finance/accounting background, etc.) Our Board of Directors operates on a hybrid model - meaning Board members are tasked both with tasks related to governance and play a direct role in supporting our programs, services and campaigns at Maggie's. We are prioritizing applications from current/former sex workers, Queer and Trans/Black and Indigenous Communities of Colour (QT/BIPOC) migrant sex workers, and sex workers with disabilities, and living with chronic illness.
Application Process:
While we appreciate the interest from everyone who applies, we will contact only those whose responses best align with our work on the Board of Directors. Selected candidates will be contacted for an interview. Orientation for successful candidates will be provided.
