Our Volunteer Opportunities
Gift Shop Coordinator
This position can be shared with multiple volunteers. You will coordinate intake of member's art and gifts, tag all items and stage merchandise for the best retail shopping experience. The gift shop is typically changed out every three months. We would LOVE to have someone with retail merchandising experience keep visitors coming back for fun and unusual gifts. This greatly supports members as well as the center.
This job can be shared between 1-3 people.
Suggested Skills: An eye for interior design, experience with Square, legible handwriting, retail merchandising/ window display experience.
Front Desk Docent
Our docent sits at the front desk to greet visitors as they enter the Center. These volunteers get to meet arts enthusiasts, local and regional artists, and both local visitors and many visitors from around the country.
Welcomers also help with information about the Chico Art Center, share knowledge of gallery shows, and manage sales in our Gift Shop.
Suggested Skills: People person, eager to greet and help visitors, and an interest in the arts.
Marketing/Design/Social Media
Our Marketing and Design Volunteers help develop designs for our events, work with our Gallery Director on special projects, help out with social media promotion, and help develop new marketing strategies to promote the Chico Art Center.
Suggested skills: Computer skills, Graphic design and/or social media knowledge, Web design skills, and an interest in the arts.
Event Volunteers
The Chico Art Center holds events throughout the year, such as our flagship event, the Open Studios Art Tour, Art in the Park, special art events, collaborative events with other local organizations, and many exciting events.
If you enjoy planning, working with others, talking about art and helping children and adults with creating art, this is a great volunteer opportunity to help the CAC throughout the year.
Suggested skills: planning events, organizing people, scheduling, computer skills, knowledge of Google docs.
Fundraising Volunteers
The Chico Art Center relies on donations from our members, the community, grants, and sponsorships to keep our gallery and Center operating.
We only have two paid staff, and the rest of the operation is managed by volunteers, including our board of directors.
All of our volunteers pitch in to create special fundraising projects, seek grant opportunities, and make connections with local businesses and patrons for sponsorships and donations.
Suggested skills: grant researching, fundraising abilities, project management, idea development, ability to collaborate on arts-related projects.
Grant Writing Volunteers
The Chico Art Center is always in need of volunteers who can help specifically with grant writing!
Suggested skills: grant research and writing specific to the arts in California.
