    MARIST ATHLETIC POLICY

    The Marist Athletic Program recognizes the integral and complementary role that athletics plays in the educational mission of the school. Athletics enhances the high school experience by developing athletic potential and teaching lifelong values. “We Are One” challenges Marist athletes, coaches and parents/guardians to recognize, respect and nurture the relationship between body, mind, spirit and community. The Marist Athletic Program exists to support our athletes and coaches in pursuit of excellence in their sport, in the classroom and throughout their lives.

    Competitive Goal and Approach

    1. The competitive goal of the varsity program is to consistently perform as well as possible against opponents, within the rules.

    2. Marist will always attempt to field the most effective combination of available team members to achieve this goal.

    3. There is a direct relationship between individual performance and playing time.

    4. The primary goal of non-varsity programs is to identify and prepare qualified athletes for eventual varsity play.

    5. Team membership and playing time are not guaranteed, regardless of grade level or previous team membership.

    RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE STUDENT-ATHLETE  

    AND THEIR PARENT(S) / GUARDIAN(S)


    Inform the Athletic Trainer of ALL injuries that occur during the season, whether or not it happened while participating in their sport. This is essential in the recovery process.

    Inform the Athletic Trainer of ALL doctor visits regarding injury and return to participation.

    Provide the Athletic Trainer with a written note from ALL doctor visits. This is important for documentation of an athlete's injury and return to participation guidelines, plus it aids in communication between the physician and ATC. In some cases the athlete will not be allowed to return to participation without a note from their physician.

    Participation in these areas is an essential link in the health care of the student-athlete at Marist Catholic High School.

    STUDENT-ATHLETE CODE OF CONDUCT 

    • I will treat my teammates, opponents, coaches, officials and spectators with dignity and respect.
    • As a representative of Marist, I am expected to act as a young Christian at all times in all places.
    • I will refrain from behaviors that negatively reflect, embarrass or discredit my Marist team, community or family.
    • I understand and must meet the academic eligibility requirements set forth in the Marist Student Handbook.
    • I understand and must meet the Christian Service requirements set forth in the Marist Student Handbook.
    • When using social media, I will be responsible for all my actions, I will not use digital technology in any manner that will risk discrediting or embarrassing myself, my team, opponents or Marist Catholic High School.
    • I will refrain from using obscene languages or gestures.
    • I will abstain from the use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco and vaping products. If found to have used any of these products, I will be held to the athletic probation policy found in the Marist Student Handbook.
    • I will always use and treat all facilities and equipment with respect.
    • I will be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.

  • MARIST CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT POLICY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

    By clicking the "I Agree" button, I agree to the below statement. I have read and understand the Marist Concussion Management Policy above. I understand that any athlete who exhibits signs, symptoms or behaviors consistent with a concussion following an observed or suspected blow to the head or body, or who has been diagnosed with a concussion, shall not be permitted to participate in any other athletic contest or practice on that same day. In schools which have the services of an athletic trainer registered by the Oregon Health Licensing Office, that athletic trainer may determine that an athlete has not exhibited signs, symptoms or behaviors consistent with a concussion, and has not suffered a concussion, and will determine if the athlete can return to play. Athletic trainers may also work in consultation with an appropriate Health Care Professional in determining when an athlete is able to return to play following a concussion.

  • OSAA CONCUSSION - RETURN TO PARTICIPATION FORM

    By clicking the "I Agree" button, I agree to the below statement.I have read and understand the OSAA Concussion-Return to Participation Medical Release form and information in the link above. I understand that until an athlete, who has suffered a concussion, is no longer experiencing signs, symptoms, or behaviors consistent with a concussion, and a medical release form signed by an appropriate Health Care Professional (Physician (MD), Physician’s Assistant (PA), Doctor of Osteopathic (DO) licensed by the Oregon State Board of Medicine, nurse practitioner licensed by the Oregon State Board of Nursing, or Psychologist licensed by the Oregon Board of Psychologist Examiners) is obtained, the athlete shall not be permitted to return to athletic activity.

I understand that any athlete who exhibits signs, symptoms or behaviors consistent with a concussion following an observed or suspected blow to the head or body, or who has been diagnosed with a concussion, shall not be permitted to any other athletic contest or practice on that same day.     Marist has been using the ImPACT testing program as part of their concussion management program for over a decade.

    It provides us the best available information for managing concussions and preventing potential brain damage that can occur with multiple concussions.

    Consent for Treatment 


    I understand that my student-athlete may be injured while participating (including but not limited to playing and practicing/training) in athletics at Marist Catholic High School. I hereby authorize and give my consent to the Certified Athletic Trainer and/or consulting physicians to render any preventative, first-aid, rehabilitation, emergency treatment or medical care they deem medically necessary for my student-athlete’s health and well-being, while participating in, or traveling under, Marist Catholic High School’s athletic program while enrolled as a student. I further understand that it is my student-athlete’s responsibility to report any injuries they have experienced- including but not limited to signs & symptoms of concussion (i.e headache, nausea) to the athletic training staff. 


    I also hereby authorize emergency medical treatment and/or transportation to a medical facility for any injury or illness deemed urgently necessary by a certified athletic trainer, designated employee or volunteer.

  • Transportation Participation Agreement

    I understand that if I choose not to use assigned athletic transportation or in the event that I need to provide my own transportation to practices or an athletic competition, I am responsible for communicating, arranging and approving alternative transportation with other student or parent drivers.
