  • Welcome to the Middle Earth Ferretry Application !!

    It is lengthy but I want only the best possible homes for my babies. Yes all of the questions are necessary as many people rush into ferret ownership or compulsively buy animals. I want to make absolutely sure that you are thinking this through an making the right decision for your family and for an MEF Ferret. 

    I understand that every family is different so please know there is no right or wrong answers. Most families do have 2 working adults and some don't I am not expecting all MEF families to be super heroes in capes and quit there day job just to be able to properly care for an MEF Ferret its unrealistic.

    I just want good quality homes for my babies and just like every kit/ferret is different so is every kit/ferret family they/we all have different levels of needs, this application helps me to identify who needs the most help, who is prepared and what information an indiviual family may need along with what homes make the best fit for certain kits espically if this is your first ferret or your very first priavte bred ferret. It is my job as a reputable breeder to make sure that you & your family are all properly educated and prepared before bringing home an Middle Earth Ferret.

  • Will you also be feeding a high quality kibble if you feed a raw, freeze-dried or prey diet ?
  • Ferrets need fresh water at all times from either a bowl or a water bottle
  • Ferrets should be provided with a pelleted wood or paper litter
  • Ferrets should not be housed on wood shavings
  • Ferrets need a hammock, sleep sack, or old sweatshirt to sleep in at all times
  • Ferrets need safe toys to play with at all times they cannot have latex or rubber
  • Ferrets need annual vaccinations for rabies and distemper
  • Ferrets never need to be tested for Aleutian Disease Virus (ADV)
  • Ferrets need daily interaction with there human companions
  • Ferrets should be caged or placed in a ferret safe room when not supervised
  • Any pet should not be left unsupervised in the presence of young children or any individual who can not remove him/herself from that pet's presence if needed.

  • Ownership Commitment

  • Ferret ownership is a lifelong commitment. Do you understand that the ferret you are purchasing may live 10 or more years ?
  • Ferrets need regular veterinary care. Will you provide all the necessary medical care for the life of this ferret ?
  • Do you agree to provide follow up reports and photos once a month to MEF for the lifetime of the ferret ?
  • Do you agree to contact MEF immediately in the case that you need to re-home a MEF Ferret for whatever reason ?
  • Do you understand that all ferrets can bite and kits may make you or your family bleed. We start nip training once eyes open at 5 weeks but expect you the owner to continue the nip training once the ferret goes home with your family.
  • Do you understand that private bred ferrets can still suffer from the same diseases/ illnesses as pet store ferrets & that MEF cannot be held responsible if your ferret becomes ill for any reason ?

  • What To Expect

  • Completing this application is the first step in the process to acquire a ferret kit or retired adult ferret from Middle Earth Ferretry in Kentucky. 

    This application does not guarantee that you will get a kit from Middle Earth Ferretry the breeder reserves the right to refuse placement at any given pointe in time for any reason. 

    If your application is approved you will be notified via email and your name will be added to our waiting list for a kit in the order in which your application was received & approved by date to keep it fair for everyone applying.

    I do not announce my litters until they are 3+ weeks of age and everything looks like its going well. Litters are announced in MEF's Facebook Group (Middle Earth Ferretry) if you are approved families are encouraged to join the group so they can remain up to date on future pairings and available kits. 

    When kits are 5 weeks old and eye/ears open I will make a post in my FB group letting everyone know that kits are "available" to reserve and pictures of each indivaual kit will be posted so that your family can see the choices/options that are available from my current litter. It is the applicants responsibility to reach out and contact me FB Messeger is the fastest way to contact me and get a response.

    If I personally reach out and contact you about a specific kit & do not hear back from you within 12 hours you will lose your place on my waiting list for that current litter and the next person on my list will be contacted. 

    Once a choice is made by your family, MEF requires a $100 non refundable deposit to hold that kit for your family. That deposit does go towards the final purchase price of your MEF ferret. It must be paid via PayPal within 24 hours of Email or FB Message. 

    MEF does this in consideration for all those who are patiently waiting for a kit & so that kits can go to there forever homes in a timely manner for the owners to be able to enjoy and bond with them during there baby stage. 

    Please Note that if you make the deposit you are committing to take that specific kit.

    The deposit that you are paying is NON-Refundable but may be transferred to another kit in another litter or for a future litter at my full discretion. I always try hard to match preferred preferences for individual families. 

    Your MEF ferret/kit can go to its new home between (8-10) weeks of age each kit is different some require longer stays with me then others. Kits can not be held for extended times it's critical for there social development that the litter departs MEF at a reasonable time frame. 

    MEF does have a detailed contract and it must be signed and notarized before you come to pick up your kit. I will not place a kit without a signed/notarized contract in hand no matter how far you have driven to pick up your MEF ferret. MEF does require Spay/Neuter and Des Implants on all of our ferrets the dates when the procedure must be completed will be outlined in your individual contract.

    If you are looking to breed ferrets you honestly should look elsewhere I absolutely will not sell you breeding rights to any of my ferrets/bloodlines.

    All MEF Ferrets are pet and/or show homes only.

    Middle Earth Ferretry will NOT place a ferret with anyone who

    ~ Is under 18 years of age, I will however consider placement with a parent of a person who is under 18 and wants to apply.

    ~ Does not have a good understanding of the proper needs of ferrets and the responsibilities required for good ownership.

    ~ Does not have the proper means to provide appropriate food, medical care, time and attention to an MEF Ferret.

    ~ Wishes to acquire an MEF Ferret for any reason other then to be a cherished family pet. Ferrets will not be placed for the use of working purposes such as hunting nor will I place my ferrets to be sold into pet stores.

    ~ I will not place with you if you want to start breeding ferrets there are absolutely no exceptions. Ferrets will only be placed as breeding stock to other long time experienced, responsible breeders with excellent morals, ethics and breeding practices.
