General Information
The IFK | University of Art and Design Linz in Vienna is again awarding Junior Fellowships for the academic year 2022/23 (1st of October 2022 to 30th of June 2023).
The IFK_Junior Fellowships are intended for young Austrian academics working on their dissertations with a focus on cultural studies, as well as for non-Austrian doctoral students who are being supervised at an Austrian university. The applicants have to present documentation of a Master’s degree (or equivalent) and need to be inscribed at a university as PhD students the latest by 1st October 2022. There is no age limit.
Please note that the IFK_Junior Fellowship requires German at a fluent communication level. We don't need any language certificates, but the interview will tell us whether the IFK's Junior Fellowship can be followed without any problems, as many projects are in German.
The dissertation proposal should address an inter-disciplinary research project with a focus on cultural studies. Academic subjects include the humanities, social sciences and art. Research projects can, but do not have to relate to the current research focuses of »cultures of translation« (»Kulturen des Übersetzens«) or »different work« (»Andere Arbeit«). Application languages are German and/or English.
IFK_Junior Fellows receive a monthly scholarship of € 1,650 plus a monthly rent allowance of max. € 350 (only upon rent contract and register confirmation (Meldebestätigung)) over nine months. Eight IFK_Junior Fellowships and one ÖAW/IFK_Junior Fellowship will be awarded. IFK_Junior Fellows will be assigned a work place at the IFK along with internet access and the associated IT equipment. In order to receive the scholarship, it is necessary to maintain a regular presence at the IFK and to take part in the academic program. It is not possible to be otherwise employed whilst receiving the scholarship, unless this is in a minor capacity (geringfügig).
The successful applicant has the option to take part in the IFK's grant program for research abroad in the academic year 2023–2024 (free choice of location and university abroad; participation is possible, but not obligatory. Exact details will be given with the selection of the project during the interviews).
The final candidates for the IFK_Junior Fellowship will be chosen on the basis of an interview about your project and plans at the IFK by a three person jury (two full professors, one ass. prof.) presumably in March. Travel expenses for the journey to these interviews will not be reimbursed.
The decision on granting the IFK_Junior Fellowships
shall be communicated to all applicants by mid-April.
Deadline for the application: Monday, 31 January 2022, 23:59
