WHAT IS THE TRAINING TO BE AN A GRADE REFEREE?
This program is designed for referees who want to attain their A Grade. In 2024 there will be two opportunities to be promoted to A Grade, the first in Term 1 then there will be a second in Term 3.
The Term 1 A Grade referee training is 6 weeks, the Term 3 is 8 weeks.
ELIGIBILITY
100 senior mens games as a B Grade referee AND at least 15 Section 1 men's matches.
WHAT IS THE FORMAT FOR PROMOTION TO A GRADE?
The format is a 6 or 8 week education and assessment program. During the program you will be required to attend 75% of weekly theory and on-court sessions. Each week will have a one-hour theory session at 4pm followed by refereeing and being assessed on 2 games each week.
Weekly theory session 4pm - 5pm
On-court session 5.00pm - 10.15pm (minimum 2 games and you are not required to stay all night)
WHAT ARE THE DATES FOR A GRADE REFEREE TRAINING?
It will run on the following dates:
Week 1 Overview - Sunday 21st July
Week 2 Communication - Sunday 28th July
Week 3 Professionalism & Decision Making- Sunday 4th August
Week 4 Fouls - Sunday 11th August
Week 5 Violations - Sunday 18th August
Week 6 Post Play & Screens - Sunday 25th August
Week 7 Game Administration - Sunday 1st September
HOW DO I GET PROMOTED TO A GRADE?
Each referee will have to consistently demonstrate each competency on men's games (not just section 1). You can click here to view the A Grade competencies.
Referees can be promoted to A Grade at any point during the training, but must still attend the remaining theory sessions.
Any referee who attains their A Grade in Term 3 in 2024, is unlikely to be nominated for Junior Panel in 2025.
