Katy Adventist Christian School was founded upon the conviction that young people should be able to gain a solid academic education in an environment that is conducive to spiritual growth. The school holds that the Bible is the sole authority on all spiritual matters and that spiritual growth begins with the initial act of saving faith and continues throughout life.
As a part of its basic philosophy of education, Katy Adventist Christian School also recognizes that the home is primarily responsible for development of Christian character, and that the church is primarily responsible for the development of a Christian conscience, and that the school is responsible for building on this foundation.
In order to build on this foundation, Katy Adventist Christian School must, therefore, provide an environment conducive to the spiritual growth and development of young people who are not yet mature Christians. We believe a Standard of Conduct based upon the following Biblical passages is necessary to provide such an environment. (I Corinthians 8:9; 12-13; 10:32 The lifestyle of the Christian will endeavor to avoid practices which cause the loss of sensitivity to the spiritual needs of the world and loss of the Christian's physical, mental, or spiritual well-being (I Corinthians 9:27
A growing awareness of the need for spiritual growth in the light of these principles has led Katy Adventist Christian School to adopt the following standards which are believed to be conducive to an environment which will best promote the spiritual welfare of the student. The school, therefore, requests each student whether at home, school, or elsewhere-- 1. to refrain from participating in worldly activities such as profanity, indecent language, gambling, cheating, pornography, premarital or extramarital sex, homosexuality or other sexual perversions, stealing, the use of any type of tobacco, drugs, alcohol, participation in unlawful, violent, or destructive acts, and involvement in music whose theme is un-Christian. 2. to maintain Christian standards of courtesy, kindness, morality, honesty and modest attire.
Katy Adventist Christian School does not condemn others who would view these restrictions differently, but we believe that the restrictions mentioned are types of conduct which are detrimental to an environment conducive to spiritual growth.
Students are expected to abide by these standards throughout their enrollment at Katy Adventist Christian School. This includes both in-term and out-of-term times -- at school, home, or any other place. Students found to be out of harmony with the Katy Adventist Christian School ideals of work and life and any student who has been arrested by authorities will be subject to administrative withdrawal.
It should be understood that this is a joint agreement between the school, the parent, and the student. It should be obvious to the parent that the school will enforce these standards. It should also be obvious to the school that the parent enforces these standards while the student is associated with KACS during the school term and the summer.
In this atmosphere of definite and positive Christian standards of conduct, good scholastic planning, and genuine personal interest between faculty and student, there is fine opportunity for development of strong Christian character.
