ASA Now is proud to present an empowering and informative presentation: Trauma Workshop - This workshop is part of our caregiver series intended to build up families and equip caregivers to interact authentically and effectively with at-risk children and practice self-care in a safe and loving space.
Children may exhibit poor behavior for any variety of reasons, so there’s no right or wrong way to explain their explosive behaviors and no one-size-fits-all approach to changing how they react. The key is to find explanations and interventions that are well matched to the child in your care and to your family. Join us in-person or virtually as Carol Melim LCSW, provides new parenting toolkits to regain peace and balance in your home.
The presenter is a foster and adoptive mom and knows first hand the struggles that come with parenting a traumatized child and uses practical tools to help families feel empowered to make a difference in their child's life.
Carol Melim is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), EMDR Certified, Trained in Reprocessing Early Trauma & Neglect in Implicit Memory, Recent Traumatic Episode Protocol (R-TEP), TMS Certified (Clinical Supervisor for Therapist) and is known within the foster/adoptive parent community as the RAD whisperer. Carol is currently employed at Lighthouse Psychiatry Advanced TMS & Counseling in Mesa.

Please note that you must register a week in advance if you are in need of childcare.
We will do our best to provide childcare to all families who request it, however, our ability to do so depends on the number of volunteers who sign up to help. If your family is selected for childcare, we will send a confirmation email with the check-in information no later than two (2) days prior to the event. Please note that there will be staggered check in times as well as check-out times.
We will be playing games, doing crafts, and serving pizza and fruit. If you have children with restrictive diets and/or food allergies we ask that you bring them a sack lunch labeled with their name. If their allergy requires an epi-pen please be sure to bring it and give it to a supervisor at check-in.
For each child we request that you bring an index card with information that volunteers should be aware of for children with special needs and/or allergies written down. Hand the card to your child's volunteer AND verbally explain the information to the volunteer assigned to your child at the event. This will help ensure that your child stays safe.
If your child has a particular food that they like, toys or card games, please provide those to the volunteer.
Additionally, we ask that you bring a change of clothes for each young child. Bring all clothing in a backpack labeled with your family's last name. if your child tends to have accidents or is potty training, please let the volunteer know and please send them in pull ups. Be sure to bring diaper bags for the little ones with enough formula and comfort items and preferred snacks to keep them as happy as possible while you are attending the workshop. Be sure to label the diaper bag with your last name as well.
