This award seeks to recognize women who own or operate a business in the Grand Prairie area who have demonstrated their resiliency by overcoming adversity while giving back to their community. Award funds are earmarked for professional development and business support.
Since the founding of the very first Soroptimist club in Oakland, California in 1921, Soroptimist International (SI) has sought to bring about change to the lives of women and girls worldwide. During the global pandemic, businesses across the country, and certainly here in Grand Prairie, have struggled. It's especially challenging for women-led businesses, according to a recent survey by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Women business owners walk a tightrope, fight for credibility, face limited access to capital and are often forced to choose between work and family caregiving obligations. U. S. Chamber of Commerce President, Suzanne Clark says,
Soroptimist International of Grand Prairie (SIGP) recognizes the many challenges women-led businesses face and we stand with them in solidarity. This award is meant to provide a hard-working woman business owner with a helping hand as part of a supportive grant designed to take her business skills to the next level.
