  • RESPONSIBILITIES

     All employees should know how to prevent and respond to fires.

    Leadership is committes to providing a workplace free of recognizable hazards..

    • Managers  provide adequate resources and training to employees to encourage fire prevention and the safest possible response in the event of a fire emergency.

    EHS is the Plan Administrator that maintains all records pertaining to the plan. The Plan Administrator should also:

    • Ensure that fire control equipment and systems are appropriate and properly maintained.
    • Facilitate employee training.
    • Conduct fire risk surveys and make recommendations for improvement.

    Supervisors ensure that employees receive appropriate fire safety training.

    • Supervisors should notify the plan administrator when changes in operation increase the risk of fire.
    • They also verify that employees have completed training as required.

    Employees are required to complete all required training. It's important that employees also:

    • Conduct operations safely to limit the risk of fire.
    • Report potential fire hazards to their supervisors.
    • Conduct assessments as required.
  • WRITTEN PLAN

    The Validus Energy Fire Prevention Plan is available at www.validus.energy under the "Programs" tab. 

     

    Validus Energy owned vehicles will be equipped with a fire extinguisher.

     

    Validus Energy offices will have fire extinguishers as required by the local building code.

     

    Fire extinguishers will be inspected regularly and replaced as needed.

     

    Hazards in the workplace will be controlled through housekeeping, education, best practices, training and periodic inspections.

  • Policies

    Housekeeping

    Good Housekeeping will be practiced on all Validus Energy worksites and office locations.

     

          Field

    To limit the risk of fires, employees shall take the following precautions at Validus Energy worksites:

    ·        Minimize the storage of Combustible materials.

    ·        Dispose of Combustible waste (oily rags...etc.) appropriately.

    ·        Keep incompatible materials that may react with each other apart.

    ·        Repair leaks and clean up spills promptly.

    ·        All hazardous chemicals must be stored in proper containers. 

    ·        If Flammable liquids are transported by Validus Employees, they must be in an Approved Safety Can.

    ·        Weeds and Flammable vegetation must be cut or sprayed regularly.

     

    Office

    To limit the risk of fires, employees shall take the following precautions at Validus Energy offices:

    ·        Ensure that doors, hallways, stairs and exit routes are not blocked by stored materials.

    ·        Use only non-Flammable cleaning products.

    ·        Ensure heaters are used away from Combustible materials, are properly rated and protected from incidental tip over.

    ·        Turn off electrical equipment when not in use.

    ·        Flammable storage cabinets must be used to store samples and other Flammable materials indoors.

  • Fire Prevention Practices

    Maintenance

    All fire detection equipment must be maintained according to manufacturers' specifications.

     Only properly trained individuals shall perform maintenance work on fire extinguishers, alarm systems, sprinkler systems, and emergency backup systems.

     

    Static Prevention

    All loading and transfers must be bonded and grounded.

     If buckets are used in the field to handle combustible fluids, they must be metal.

     

    Cutting, Welding, and Hot work

    Any employee conducting hot work must follow the Validus Energy Hot Work Program and use the permit found on the forms page of Validus.Energy.

     

    Electrical Components

    All extension cords must be properly rated with a grounding prong intact on the male end. 

     All damaged electrical components and/or cords must be removed from service.

    Extension cords may not be run under rugs or carpets.

      

    Smoking

    Smoking is only allowed in designated areas.  If no area is specified for field locations, the only designated area is at the wellsite entrance.

  • Compliance

    Regular field assessments will be conducted and documented to ensure compliance with this program.  If deficiencies are found, corrective actions will be implemented.

     

    Validus Energy employees will conduct monthly fire extinguisher inspections and a third party will complete the annual maintenance check.
