    Fauquier Community Theatre is delighted to have Diane King directing Gift of the Magi - The Musical! Auditions are on Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 9 am to 11 am or 1 pm to 3 pm at Hope Christian Fellowship located at 4173 Bludau Dr, Warrenton, VA 20187. (Callbacks will be by invitation only on Monday, September 20 from 7 pm to 9 pm. Not all roles will need callbacks, so you may still be cast even if you do not get a callback.)

  • Plot Synopsis

    It's Christmas in New York in 1905. Imagine the excitement of a busy street, bustling with shoppers and carolers singing joys of the season. Della, a stunning young woman, strolls along, looking in store windows, a bit saddened that she only has $1.87 to spend on a gift for her husband, Jim. Down the street, Jim does likewise; wistfully knowing that the items in the stores that he would love to buy for Della are beyond his means. Yes, you have entered a beautiful musical adaptation of O. Henry's, The Gift of the Magi, which will thrill and inspire cast members and audiences.

  • Audition Preparation

    Come prepared to audition with a verse and a chorus from a favorite musical or Broadway number. It can be with tracks that you provide, music that you bring, or a cappella. You may be asked to read from the script, sing with the group, and learn some choreography. Please wear comfortable clothing such as athletic wear or dance wear and tennis shoes or jazz shoes since you may be asked to learn and perform basic choreography. Specifics: Your song should be a short section of a Broadway song, no longer than one minute.  A monologue is not required, however, you will be expected to characterize your song!

  • Jim Young (Lead): Male, 20-30 married to Della, quiet, thoughtful, witty; baritone.

    Hunnicutt (Supporting): Male, 40-70 manager of Hadley’s Five & Ten, fancies himself a ladies’ man, a bit lecherous; bass.

    William (Lead): Male, 35-45 Jim’s best friend and co-worker at the Bank of New York, gregarious, fun; tenor.

    Betsy (Supporting): Female, 30-50 William’s wife, a little ditsy; doubles as Hula Girl; mezzo.

    Della Young (Lead): Female, 18-26 married to Jim, sweet and gentle, but with spunk; soprano.

    Maddy (Lead): Female, 35-55 Della’s best friend, works at Hadley’s, wise-cracking, fun-loving; alto.

    Nestor (Supporting): Male, age 7-10 William and Betsy’s son, overly energetic, mischievous;  any vocal range.

    Annabelle (Supporting): Female age 8 -11 William and Betsy’s daughter, curious, manipulative, feisty; any vocal range.

    Porter (Supporting): Male, 35-50 President of the Bank of New York, conceited, snobbish, blunt; any vocal range.

    Officer O'Reilly (Supporting): Male, 30-50 NYC policeman, by-the-book, but kind; doubles as Caroler, baritone.

    Officer Brown (Supporting): Make, 25-45 NYC policeman, cheerful, eager to help; doubles as Caroler; high tenor.

    Henry/Santa (Supporting): Male, 35-55 cheerful, generous; tenor.

    Alice (Supporting): Female, 18-40 caroler, bank customer; hula girl; soprano.

    Emily (Supporting): Female, 18-40 caroler, bank customer, hula girl, mezzo.

    Carolers: Quartet - Offier O'Reilly, Officer Brown, Alice, and Emily.

    Beggar Family (Ensemble): Mother, Father, and Child (child doubles as newsboy); any vocal range.

    Performances of Gift of the Magi: The Musical will be presented on Fridays and weekends between November 26 and December 12, 2021 at the Vint Hill Theatre on the Green located at 4225 Aiken Drive, Warrenton, VA or as a backup plan at Hope Christian Fellowship.

  • Rehearsals and Schedules for Gift of the Magi: The Musical

    Anyone cast may be required to attend 2-3 rehearsals per week prior to Tech Week and every day during Tech Week. Rehearsals will be in the Vint Hill area of Warrenton. and days will be determined as to the needs of the cast. Participants MUST be in attendance for all rehearsals during tech week and all performances. Please LIST below any prior commitments (regular or occasional) starting with the day after callbacks.

  • Fauquier Community Theatre Policies

    Please note thefollowing FCT policies:·If you are cast, you are required to become a member of FCT. Yearly Membership dues are $20 for youth, $25 for an adult, or $50 for a family. (This is the minimum; higher membership levels have extra benefits and are encouraged!) Membership dues are highly preferred to be made online or if not possible, then a check payable to Fauquier Community Theatre may be given to the Producer. Please consider donating more than the fee. FCT has a zero tolerance policy toward sexual harrassment and abuse and may conduct background checks.There is no smoking, vaping, drug use, or drinking alcoholic beverages at any time in the theatre, dressing room trailer, or any rehearsal location. You may not smoke or eat at any time while in costume, indoors or outdoors. Adherence to the policies of Fauquier County Department of Parks and Recreation and to those of our rehearsal hosts is expected of all participants .It is the responsibility of all participants to assure that all aspects of the production are conducted in a safe manner. Participation in this production is strictly voluntary. The participant agrees to hold harmless and indemnify Fauquier Community Theatre - Story Painters, Inc., its Board of Directors, employees, and associated representatives from any and all claims, judgments or settlements resulting from the participant’s involvement in any rehearsals or performances of this show.
