PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The following is a list of physical demands that you may encounter as a beauty industry professional. It is important that you be aware of the physical requirements.
Body Position: Standing for long periods of time is required.
Hands: Continued exposure to water, cleansing agents and chemicals. Special hand care products are recommended for all service professionals.
Chemicals: Working with many different types of chemicals. Students, who have any known allergies, experience allergies or have sensitivities to product ingredients, must notify the staff immediately.
Note: Students will be notified of the rules that have been established by The Cosmetology Institute. Any violation of these rules would lead to appropriate disciplinary action.
ATTENDANCE
Attendance is critical for this program. Please pay special attention to this section to avoid confusion regarding attendance.
- Attendance is 100% of your grade towards completion
- Class begins at 9:00a.m. and ends at 3:00p.m. Tuesday through Saturday or 5:00p.m.-10:00p.m., Tuesday through Friday.
- Students must be in proper uniform and appropriate makeup and hair for this profession (if applicable)in order to attend class.

Students are allowed 5 days of absence during your contracted scheduled course. More than 5 absences will result in dismissal from the program and no refund will be given. Three tardies equal 1 day of absence.

Absence means non-attendance for any reason. Extreme circumstances may be reviewed by an administrative committee.

Students are required to be on time and stay the entire day. If you must leave early, you are to notify the instructor/office personnel.

Students must be in attendance for the full day to receive credit for the full day. If a student is only there for 3 hrs., they will only receive credit for 3 hours.

Students will receive a 15-minute morning break, a 30-minute lunch break, and a 15-minute afternoon break.

Students must contact their assigned educator by 9:00 a.m. to report an absence.
- It is the student’s responsibility to consult with his/her educator for missed assignments or tests immediately after returning to school after an absence.
- If you are a student in good standing and need to withdraw due to reasonable cause, you will be allowed to re-enter the program if space is available.
- IF YOU ARE DROPPED FOR EXCESSIVE ABSENCES, YOU MUST REAPPLY AND SUBMIT A NEW APPLICATION PACKET.
APPEARANCE & UNIFORMS
All students to successfully complete any program at The Cosmetology Institute will be entering into the beauty industry and will receive training to become a professional, therefore students are required to look, act, and dress professionally at all times. Proper hygiene and good grooming habits are a requirement. Therefore, a student who is not properly and professionally attired will be unable to attend class that day and an absence will be recorded.
Students must wear a proper, cleaned uniform at all times. Students must have makeup applied and hair properly styled at all times. Failure to do so will result in dismissal for the day and an absence assigned.

Black scrub top with TCI logo and black scrub pants, black tennis shoes (no open toe or open back, canvas or cloth shoes) and a TCI lab jacket must be worn every day.

Non-hooded shirts may be worn under uniform tops.

NO SWEATSHIRTS, COATS, HOODIES, ETC. ARE TO BE WORN UNDER OR OVER UNIFORMS.

COATS OR JACKETS MAY BE WORN IN THE CLASSROOM, BUT NOT ON LAB FLOOR.

Hair must be clean and neatly styled.

Men’s beards or facial hair must be neatly groomed.

If appearance is in question, instructors will make the decision if it is appropriate. This includes body piercings and tattoos. CONDUCT & DISCIPLINARY Students are responsible for their own behavior and interaction with students, staff, and patrons.
Any behavior such as:

disrespect towards instructor, staff or clients,
-
stealing,
-
fighting,
-
using profanity,
-
cheating or plagiarism,
-
causing friction among other students,
-
sleeping in class,
-
possessing or using drugs or alcohol,
-
possessing firearms,
-
refusing to perform assigned instruction, etc.,
defacing school property in any way, is unacceptable and may result in immediate dismissal from the program and college.
CELL PHONES
Cell phones are to be turned to vibrate/off while in the building. If an emergency arises or you are involved in a crisis situation and need to be available via cell phone, please talk to the educator prior to class to make arrangements. IF YOU ARE CAUGHT WITH THE CELL PHONE OUT IN THE BUILDING, WITHOUT PERMISSION, YOU WILL BE SENT HOME FOR THE DAY AND RECEIVE AN ABSENCE.
STUDENT EVALUATION
In order to pass the state examination for licensure, you are required to score 75% or above; therefore, students are encouraged to maintain a grade of 75 or better throughout the course. Grades are calculated to determine the final score according to the following scale:
90 – 100 (A) Excellent 80 – 89(B) Good 70 – 79(C) Fair 60 – 69( D) Poor Below 60 (F)
TCI IS A NON-SMOKING CAMPUS
The use of tobacco products/smoking (including vapors) is not allowed in classrooms, break areas, bathrooms, parking lots and surrounding TCI properties.
No clients, family (including children) or friends are allowed in the classroom or lab areas unless they have an appointment.

Treat all individuals with respect and courtesy. This is a hands-on training program, and the public receives services at reduced prices. Refusal to perform assigned services is subject to immediate disciplinary action.

Keep your work area in the classroom and lab clean to pass state inspection at all times.

Every student will receive a kit and textbooks for their chosen course. These necessary materials are required to be brought at school at all times. If at any time a student does not have the required items, you will be dismissed from class until you have those items.

Students are not allowed in the instructors’ office without permission from the instructor.

No congregating at the reception desks or waiting area.

Since modeling for fellow students is an important part of the application of manipulative skills, all students are required to participate as a model in salon services.

Students are not allowed to perform services on each other without getting permission from the instructor.
-
Payment for products must be made before any product is checked out for personal use.
-
The student on desk duty is to inform the other students as to the services they are to perform on their client. The student performing the service is responsible for informing the desk attendant as to extra services requested by the client so that fees may be adjusted for payment.

No eating or drinking is allowed by students on the lab floor. Food is allowed only in designated areas.

Each student is assigned a locker for their personal items. A lock will be required for the locker. One key will be kept in the student’s personal folder, in the event you fail to comply with the TCI guidelines, your actions will be documented and placed in the student’s file. After the 3rd offense, student will be subject to dismissal from the program. If any offense is deemed severe enough for immediate dismissal, appropriate action will be taken.
If the student is dropped for disciplinary reasons, student will only be allowed to return to school with approval from the instructors and administration. Student will be placed on probation for a determined amount of time. If there are any reasons you cannot comply with the above listed regulations, please notify us in writing within 30 days of being dropped.
