Who is eligible?
K-8 classrooms in public and charter schools in the Buffalo and Lackawanna School Districts.
Complete this application for a chance to be awarded a FREE Terrarium Workshop.
What is the program?
Our terrarium workshop can be adapted for students of all grade levels and abilities. Students will learn about what plants need to grow and discover the workings of the water cycle while creating the perfect habitat for a tropical plant. This miniature ecosystem is fun to create, easy to care for and easy to transport home.
Where is the program?
While we look forward to bringing students back to the Botanical Gardens, we are offering virtual field trips for the fall, with the hopes to be able to offer in-person field trips in the spring.
How does the virtual program work?
Our virtual program includes hands-on kits that are individually pre-packaged with everything each student needs to create their own miniature ecosystem. We will arrange a date and time for you to pick up the kits for your grade level at the Botanical Gardens.
The workshop will take approximately 45 minutes. We prefer to use Zoom, however we are able to connect to Buffalo Public Schools' Teams.
What do schools need to supply?
The only supply not included with the kits is water. Each student will need approximately 1/2 cup of water.
The workshop works best with student participation. Each student having a tablet/laptop in front of them is best for student participation. We ask that your students have their cameras on and mute/unmute themselves as needed.
At the very least, you will need a way for all students to view the live presentation.
What else should schools know?
