Casting "Swerve", a short film by Raphael Xavier
Synopsis: While looking for a change in life, BMX'er Van Xander is given the chance to mentor young Eli, a fifteen-year old trying to make a name in Philly's wheelie culture. They soon realize that they need each other.
Production Details
Rehearsals in early Oct.; shoots mid/late Oct. in Philadelphia, PA. Pays $200/day ($25/hr) for performance calls and $25/hr for non-performance calls (excluding the virtual table read). Meals provided on-set. Travel and accommodation/lodging will not be provided or compensated. However, transportation between shooting locations during the same day will be provided. Plan to apply for a SAG-AFTRA Short Project Agreement. Both union and non-union actors are invited to apply and audition!
Location
All production will take place in Philadelphia. Travel/transportation will not provided or compensated.

Roles:
Eli
African-American male, 15. A high school student involved in Philly’s bike culture. Eli is shy but quick to defend what is his. His heart is in the right place but he doesn’t always make the best decisions; Required Skills include being able to perform bike skills such as wheelies, peg work, and surfing. Feel free to submit/email a video displaying your bike skills.
Remo
African-American male, late 40’s. Business type and street smart. His disarming personality provides comedic relief in intense situations. Remo was Van’s best friend when they were in the street business with Eli’s late father over a decade ago. Now, he works as a high school Principal at Eli’s school and hopes to prevent Eli from ending up like his father.
One Wheel Gawd
Male, 35. Rough and intolerant leader of his bike crew. Sly and quick to take from others. Unruly, hot-tempered and reckless; Required Skills include being comfortable with riding bikes. The ability to learn and perform fight choreo is also a must (must be willing to express written consent). Street fighting experience such as MMA and 52 Blocks is recommended but not required.
Hoodrich
Male, 35. One Wheel Gawd’s right hand man. More level-headed and easygoing than One Wheel Gawd, like a wiser younger brother, but still a loose cannon. Devoted to bike life. Required Skills include being comfortable with riding bikes.
Grandmother
African-American female, 75. Physically slow but wise and quick-witted. She’s the moral grounding that Eli can come home to.
