Calling all creatives! To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of SHAOLIN JAZZ and our first mixtape: “SHAOLIN JAZZ The 37th Chamber,” we're partnering with DC Design Week to launch a very exciting contest.
Originally released in 2011 by Gerald Watson and DJ 2-Tone Jones - “SHAOLIN JAZZ The 37th Chamber” is a jazz and hip-hop infused collection of songs that features Wu Tang Clan acappellas that are cleverly fused with instrumentals from select jazz greats. And to celebrate our 10 year anniversary we’re asking for your creative talents.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to remix the original cover art of our first album or create your own original artwork. You can work in any medium you choose, but we’ll be looking for inspired graphic design, illustration or typography that captures the spirit of our project. The deadline for submissions is Friday September 17, 2021, 12am EST.
Winners will be announced on Friday October 1, 2021 and a select number of submissions will be exhibited alongside works from our design archive in the DC Design Week 2021 Launch Party and Pop-Up Exhibition celebrating 10 years of SHAOLIN JAZZ, also on 10.1.21.
Designers can submit only one album cover design. A design collective can participate as one (1) designer – submitting only one design.
Entries will be judged on the following criteria: originality and creativity, usage of typography, and connectivity to the themes of SHAOLIN JAZZ (hip-hop, jazz and martial arts culture).
Eligibility: The competition is open to DMV residents, the United States and worldwide.
Prizes: Winners will receive apparel from SHAOLIN JAZZ, product from iconic streetwear brand UNDEFEATED, and DC Design Week swag.
Dimensions:
- Pixel Size: At least 1600 x 1600 pixels, but 3000 x 3000 pixels is recommended.
- Size 10in x 10in (3000 x 3000) at 300dpi, RGB.
- Acceptable file formats: jpg, png, pdf and should not to exceed 10mb.
- Your submission filename must have your name first and last name in it.
