Humanist Canada agrees to accept the Affiliate under the terms and conditions set forth in this Agreement.
I. Requirements To Be an Affiliate
The Affiliate shall:
1. Support the vision, mission, and values statement of HC.
2. Share the Humanist philosophy and principles of the Amsterdam Declaration.
3. Raise the awareness of Humanism locally and in Canada.
4. Host regular meetings.
5. Complete and sign this Administrative Agreement.
6. Be approved by the Humanist Canada Board of Directors.
7. Pay an annual group affiliation fee of $200.
HC reserves the right to approve or reject any Affiliate for any reason, in its sole and absolute discretion. The Affiliate will have no legal recourse against HC for the rejection of its Affiliate status.
II. Autonomy
Both parties to this Agreement will maintain separate, autonomous, and independent financial administration, governance, budgeting, planning, accounting, fundraising, endowment funds, and fiscal accountability, responsibility, and liability. Neither party shall commit any financial, physical, human or other resources of the other party or create any liability for the other party.
III. Termination
Affiliate groups and HC may rescind their affiliate status at any time by notification to the other by email or regular post. The affiliate or HC shall acknowledge receipt of a termination notice.
IV. Benefits Of Affiliating with Humanist Canada
Affiliates shall receive the following benefits from Humanist Canada.
a) A one-time, one-year complimentary membership for all members of the Affiliate group.
b) An Affiliate Certificate containing the HC logo.
c) Inclusion of the Affiliate’s contact information on the HC website.
d) Preferred, and when applicable, discounted access to HC events including webinars, courses and workshops.
e) Preferred status regarding volunteer opportunities.
f) The Affiliate may have input regarding HC’s programs, where applicable.
g) Quarterly online forum with other Affiliates.
h) Subscription to the HC Newsletter.
V. Privacy
HC protects the privacy of its Affiliates. We never share our Affiliates’ contact information with any organization, business, or individuals. You can refer to our full privacy policy HERE.
VI. Humanist Canada's Responsibility to the Affiliate
HC will help the Affiliate to identify and establish contact with other Humanists in the area.
HC will keep its Affiliate informed about HC’s initiatives.
Affiliates may sit on HC committees.
HC will share its best practices with the Affiliate. We encourage the Affiliate to share its best practices with the National Office and we welcome its input into HC webinar topics, petition campaigns and other initiatives.
HC will serve as a liaison between the Affiliate and other humanist organizations with a view to expanding our mutual reach around common goals. In order to do so, HC will host a quarterly forum with HC Affiliates.
HC will strive to ensure efficient communication with the Affiliate and answer its queries in a timely manner.
VII. Promoting Humanism
HC Affiliates will be actively engaged in promoting Humanism locally by holding regular meetings, keeping a consistent schedule of events, and maintaining an online presence in order to build a vibrant community.
HC encourages its Affiliates to reach out to like-minded groups and organizations in their area to broaden the humanist network, exchange ideas, and provide mutual support.
HC Affiliates will create a warm, inclusive environment and welcome new members, volunteers, and guests regardless of their age, sexual orientation, or disability. HC Affiliates will not tolerate harassment based on race, gender, age, language, culture, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or any other protected group status outlined by local, provincial, or federal laws.
HC encourages its Affiliates to keep the National Office informed about their local initiatives and campaigns.
VIII. Fees
The Affiliate must pay an annual affiliate fee and keep its account in good standing.
IX. Reputation
The Affiliate will not take any action that brings Humanism or HC into disrepute.
X. Insurance
Each party agrees to maintain its own insurance, if applicable, in commercially reasonable amounts calculated to protect itself and the other party to this Agreement from any and all claims of any kind or nature for damage to property or personal injury, including death that may arise from activities performed or facilitated by this contract, whether these activities are performed by that company, its employees, agents, or anyone directly or indirectly engaged or employed by or acting on behalf of that party or its agents.
XI. Advertising & Rights to Use HC Logo
The Affiliate shall state in their literature and on their social media accounts that they are affiliated with Humanist Canada.
The Affiliate shall place HC’s affiliate logo and embedded link on its website directing users to HC’s website. The Affiliate will have a limited term license for the duration of the Agreement to utilize HC’s affiliate logo. On termination of this Affiliation Agreement by either party, the Affiliate shall remove the affiliate logo and embedded link from its website.
HC grants the Affiliate a nonexclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to access HC’s site through the links solely in accordance with the terms of this Agreement, for the sole purpose of linking your site to our site, solely for the purpose of identifying your site as a participant in the Affiliate Program.
The Affiliate may not alter, modify, or change the links in any way. The Affiliate is only entitled to use the links to the extent that it is a member in good standing of the Affiliate Program. HC will revoke the Affiliate’s license anytime by giving it written notice.
