CODE OF CONDUCT
CYO Utah Athletics, through the vehicle of sports, provides youth with an opportunity to practice Christian attitudes and responsibilities and to become friends with other children throughout dioceses of Salt Lake City and surrounding communities. CYO Athletics activities should be examples of the meaning of Christian sportsmanship. The guiding principle behind the enforcement of this code is that the behavior of everyone involved in CYO Athletics should notdetract from the children’s enjoyment of the sport.
CYO Athletics is intended to provide safe opportunities for the recreational, physical, moral, intellectual, and spiritual development of our children. It is absolutely essential for parents, coaches and officials to encourage youth athletes to embrace the values of good sportsmanship to maintain a healthy and safe environment. Adults involved in youth sports events should be models of good sportsmanship and should lead by example by demonstratingfairness, respect and self control.
A stable, working relationship must be comprised between league officials and all active participants to manage the essentials necessary to make CYO Athletics a fun and positive experience for all! The standardization of all league policies will be enforced, and a Zero Tolerance Policy will be in place to avoid compromising the hard work of all to prevent any ongoing issues. The inability to maintain this relationship with UCAA policies will be dealt with swiftly and based upon the nature of the infraction possible removal from the league for parent and player may be the result!
I am committed and agree to be responsible for my words and actions while attending, coaching, officiating or participating in a UCAA event and shall conform my behavior to the following code of conduct: Removal from the UCAA may be the direct consequence for violating any of the below code of conduct!
CODE OF CONDUCT
1. I will not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct with any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
2. I will not encourage my child, or any other person, to engage in unsportsmanlike
conduct with any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
3. I will not engage in any behavior which would endanger the health, safety or well being of any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
4. I will not encourage my child, or any other person, to engage in any behavior which would endanger the health, safety or well being of any coach, parent, player,
participant, official or any other attendee.
5. I will not use drugs or alcohol while at a youth sports event and will not attend, coach, officiate or participate in a youth sports event while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
6. I will not engage in the use of profanity.
7. I will not encourage my child, or any other person, to engage in the use of profanity.
8. I will treat any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee with
respect regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or ability.

9. I will encourage my child to treat any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee with respect regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or ability.
10. I will not engage in verbal or physical threats or abuse aimed at any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
11. I will not encourage my child, or any other person, to engage in verbal or physical threats or abuse aimed at any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
12. I will not initiate a fight or scuffle with any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
13. I will not encourage my child, or any other person, to initiate a fight or scuffle with any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
Our school’s Pastor’s and Principals are working diligently with the Director of CYO Athletics and our Parish / School Athletic Directors to create a positive and safe environment for our children to participate in league sports. All parents and participants attending any CYO event will be
held accountable for their actions and our Zero tolerance policy will be enforced to ensure any code of conduct violation will be dealt with swiftly in accordance with the game rules, by-laws and constitution. We have all bought into this Sportsmanship model and encourage everybody to read and abide by the clear sportsmanship expectations and Zero tolerance policy!
Let’s teach our children together Sportsmanship is an action! Regardless of a team winning or losing as coaches and parents we must set the example through kindness and love. As adults and our Children’s biggest fans we set the most important examples for their development as people on and off the court!
ZERO TOLERENCE
The Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), through the vehicle of sports, provides youth with an opportunity to practice Christian attitudes and responsibilities and to become friends with other children throughout their dioceses. CYO activities should be examples of the meaning of Christian sportsmanship. The guiding principle behind the enforcement of this code is that the behavior of everyone involved in CYO should not detract from the children’s enjoyment of the
sport.
1. COACHES
Acceptable standards of coaching behavior include:
● Set a good example for participants and fans to follow, exemplifying the highest moral and ethical behavior.
● Respect the judgment of officials and abide by rules of the game.
● Treat opposing coaches, participants and fans with respect.
● Instruct participants in sportsmanship and demand they display good sportsmanship.
● Coach in a positive manner, reflecting Christian values.
● In basketball, remain seated on the bench at all times, except in the instances in the National Federation Basketball Rule book.
Penalties:

● Any coach ejected from a game because of unsportsmanlike conduct will be
suspended for the next two games and may be subject to additional penalties.
● Any coach who physically abuses another person may be suspended for the remainder
of the season and disqualified from CYO participation.
● Any coach who physically abuses an official will be suspended for the remainder of the
season and may be disqualified from CYO participation.
2. PLAYERS
Acceptable standards of participant behavior include:
● Treat opponents with respect, shake hands prior to and after a game.
● Respect the judgment of officials and abide by the rules of the game.
● Accept the responsibility of representing the school or parish by displaying positive behavior at all times.
● Play in a positive manner, reflecting Christian values. Do not bait or taunt opponents. Do not use foul language. Do not commit hard or flagrant fouls.
Penalties:
● Any player ejected from a game because of unsportsmanlike conduct will be
suspended from the next game and may be subject to additional penalties.
● Any player who physically abuses another player, participant or official may be
suspended from play for the remainder of the season and may be disqualified from CYO competition.
3. SPECTATORS
Acceptable standards of spectator behavior include:
● Remember that the players are children and are playing for their enjoyment, not yours.
● Remain seated in the spectator area during the games.
● Respect decisions made by game officials.
● Be a role model by positively supporting teams and by not shouting instructions or criticism to the players, coaches or officials. Do not coach from the stands.
● Make no derogatory comments or gestures to players, coaches, parents of the opposing team, officials or league administrator.
Penalties:
● Participating teams and their coaches are responsible for the conduct of their spectators
● Any spectator who displays poor sportsmanship may be removed from the facility by an official, their team coach, a league official or the host gym manager.
● Any spectator who interferes with the conduct of a CYO activity may, at the discretion of the spectator's parish, league, or CYO Board, be barred from attendance at subsequent
CYO activities.
4. ENFORCEMENT
● The parishes and schools under the Director of CYO Athletics will enforce this code.
● Complaints regarding violations of this code shall be first brought to the attention of the Director.

● Coaches, participants or spectators may be placed on probation or suspended from CYO activities for their actions.
Code of Conduct violations and or ejections could result in an immediate ban from the CYO.
Code of Conduct Violations and Poor Sportsmanship will absolutely not be tolerated Zero tolerance means Zero tolerance!
I hereby agree that if I fail to conform my conduct to the foregoing while attending, coaching, officiating or participating in a UCAA event I will be subject to disciplinary action, including but not limited to the following in any order or combination:
Disciplinary actions will be based upon the league’s Constitution, Charter and game rules.
Ejections from a gym may be issued by the Director of CYO Athletics, gym coordinator, and school’s athletic director, Diocese or principal Liaison who is authorized to issue such a suspension. Player’s, Coach’s, Parent’s or any participant attending a CYO event ejected for violating this code of conduct may in immediate removal frm the league in accordance with the Zero tolerance policy!
