Students participating on any Realms trip need to show a great deal of maturity and responsibility. There will be times when students are not supervised. It is important that everyone understand what is acceptable behavior and what is not.
● Students are always responsible for adhering to the Realms Statement of Understanding (signed at the beginning of the year).
● Students using drugs, alcohol, or medications (in unprescribed ways) will be sent home at the expense of the student’s family.
● Students are responsible for knowing and being accountable for Academic Competencies and Participation Expectations for the trip.
● Students are expected to not bring and/or show responsible use of electronics (music devices, cameras, etc.) as specified by trip leaders. Any electronic device that repeatedly becomes a distraction or that negatively impacts the experience of an individual or the group is subject to temporary confiscation by leaders. Any devices that access the internet or make and/or receive telephone calls are not permitted on any trip.
● Students are expected to maintain leaders’ trust. If students compromise trust (missing curfew, caught lying, etc.) they will lose trip privileges and should expect a lower trip grade. In some cases, the location of the trip and the student’s behavior warrants that students be sent home if the trust of trip leaders is repeatedly betrayed.
The behaviors listed below are examples of violations of Realm’s school policies and can result in any of the below consequences. There are additional behaviors that may result in consequences. If there is any question about what any of the behaviors or policies mean, please talk with your leaders.
● Destructive group behavior negatively impacting the trip group in the following ways:
○ exclusivity including relationships, conversations, and behaviors that detract from the experience
○ ignoring or not listening to instruction
○ jeopardizing the safety of any one or the group. The list of destructive group behavior can include but is not limited to the above.
● Negatively representing Realms of Inquiry School (in behavior, language, or appearance) to those with whom you come into contact.
● Inappropriate physical contact or behavior with other students
● Diving or jumping into water from any height (watercraft, cliff, rock, ledge etc.) and swimming without supervision and leader permission (as required by insurance).
Consequences: Any violation, or perceived violation of the above expectations will result in consequences ranging from stricter supervision and loss of freedoms to being sent home. If a student is sent home from a trip, the cost of that process will be each family’s responsibility (including the cost of a staff member escort back home if necessary). The student is likely to receive a No Grade (NG) for the trip, and participation on future trips may be in jeopardy. Further action (if necessary) can include contracts, Review Council action, and expulsion from the school.
I have thoroughly read this contract, understand it, and agree to all of its terms.
