Please join the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)Equity Working Group on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 10-11 a.m. (PST) for the "Stronger Together Unconference."
In light of the current challenges facing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and racial equity work in the public sector, the MPO Equity Working Group is hosting the "Stronger Together Unconference," a solidarity space for MPO staff working toward racial equity to reconnect. This one-hour online unconference will start with a brief introduction, followed by breakout room discussions led by topic suggesters who will facilitate and assign notetakers. The session will conclude with a summary of discussions and closing remarks.
Remember to fill out the anonymous pre-survey to help us get insight into how MPOs have been responding to federal changes and allow you to propose topic suggestions for the "Stronger Together Unconference."
Note: In an effot to protect anonymity, no personally identifiable information should be included in survey responses. Aggregate results will be shared at the "Unconference."
The MPO Equity Network Group was established by a group of Government Alliance on Race & Equity members in December 2020. Since then, staff from 29 MPOs and 30 states have joined the group to discuss equity-related performance measurement, project prioritization, equity tools, environmental justice methodologies, and engagement and outreach approaches for long-range planning. We encourage other MPOs to join the group as they take on advancing equity. What is an MPO? A Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is a federally mandated and federally funded transportation policy-making organization in the United States that is made up of representatives from local government and governmental transportation authorities. Others who might find the group helpful are those engaged in regional or statewide planning (larger in scale), such as regional transportation planning agencies, councils of governments, and state departments of transportation.
