  • YMCA of Three Rivers Swim Level Assessment

    Use this form to determine which swim program to register your child for, or to connect with the Aquatic Supervisor to book an in-water assessment.
  • Join us for a swim assessment before your lessons in the Winter! Swim assessments help us identify which level of the swim program is the best fit for your swimmer(s) based on their current abilities, to ensure lessons are a valuable experience this Fall.

    Swim Assessments; 

    > Are valuable to swimmers age 3 and up!
       Swimmers 0-2 years of age can register in Splashers & Bubblers - Parent & Tot 

    > Take about 10-20 minutes to complete, and are done in shallow water.

    > Aquatic Staff will take your swimmer(s) through some key skills during the assessment.

    > In-Water Parent/Caregiver Participation is required for all swimmers 9 and under, and recommended for beginner swimmers 10 and up.

    > Feel free to bring the whole family for an assessment together!

  • Register your child for the "Splashers/Bubblers - Parent and Tot" swim program

    This program is for children ages 0-2. Parent participation is required.

  • Register your child for the "YMCA Preschool" swim program

    This program is for children ages 3-5 years. Due to physical distancing requirements, this program requires a parent/caregiver who is at least 16 years of age to attend the swim lesson in the water to provide hands on support to the swimmer, with guidance from the swim instructor.

  • Register your child for the "Learn to Swim - Otter/Seal" swim program

    This program is for children ages 6-12 who are learning fundamental swim skills. Due to physical distancing requirements, this program requires a parent/caregiver who is at least 16 years of age to attend the swim lesson in the water to provide hands on support to the swimmer, with guidance from the swim instructor.

  • Register your child for the "Learn to Swim - Dolphin/Swimmer" swim program

    This program is for children ages 6-12 who have mastered the fundamental swim skills, and are confident swimming 10 meters or more in shallow and deep water WITHOUT assistance or the use of a buoyant aid (lifejacket, pool noodle, etc.)

    Due to physical distancing requirements, parent/caregiver participation may be required at the discretion of the head lifeguard for participants who cannot swim 25 metres without assistance.

    Level assessments will be completed on the first day of lessons. If your child does not meet the minimum requirements for this level, you may need to re-register for another time, pending availability.   • Register your child for the "Star 1-4" swim program

    This program is for children ages 6-12 who have mastered the fundamental swim skills, and can swim multiple lengths of the pool without stopping. Participants should complete the YMCA Learn to Swim program or equivalent before registering for this program.

    Level assessments will be completed on the first day of lessons. If your child has not completed the Learn to Swim Program or equivelant, you may need to re-register for a more appropriate level, pending availability. If you're still not sure of your child's level, use the next page to inquire about an in-water skill assessment.

  • Register your child for the "Star 5-7" swim program

    This program is for children ages 6-12 who are advanced swimmers that have mastered all of the fundamental swim strokes (Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Breaststroke, Elementary Backstroke, Side Stroke). Your child should be comfortable swimming to the bottom of the deep end of the YMCA pool, and have the endurance to confidently swim distances of 350 metres (14 laps of the YMCA pool) or more.

  • Not sure about your child's swim ability?

     

    If you aren't sure of your child's swim skills, use the form on the next page to inquire about an in-water swim assessment to ensure that you register for the correct program before lessons start.

    Level assessments are also completed on the first day of lessons to ensure the safety of all participants. However, if your child's skill level does not meet the requirements of the level you have registered for, you may need to register for another time, pending availability.

  • In-Water Swim Level Assessment

  • In-water swim level assessments can be completed during during any of our Open and Family Swim times. A parent/caregiver 16 years of age or older must accompany all children under 10 years of age to their assessment and should be prepared to enter the water to provide hands-on support during the assessment. 

    Please connect with the admission/off rotation lifeguard to complete your swim assessment. Lifeguards who are actively watching the pool are not able to complete an assessment.
