  • Choosing cremation

  • A direct cremation or an unattended cremation following a church service in/near the ACT, is much cheaper at the Sydney crematorium we work with than local crematoriums.

This is in part because of the higher costs of cremation in Canberra. Costs range from approx. $500 to more than $1,000 extra, depending on the circumstances.

A cremation in Sydney also provides more options for the delivery of the ashes.

The ashes can be delivered in person to you or sent by Registered Post for the same fee.

The crematorium itself is near Campbelltown and is a private crematorium on a commercial estate.

  • This form cannot be completed. The respective form for Norwood Park or Gungahlin Crematorium is required.

  • Select {cemcrems} from the list of crematorium(s).

  • ^ With a cremation at Macarthur Grange crematorium, ashes can be sent by Registered Post or collected from our Redfern head office within about a week.

Alternatively, they could be delivered at a time that suits the family and when Salvos Funerals might be available. The ashes can also be sent to another crematorium if they are to be interred there.

All delivery options are at no additional cost.

The crematorium itself is near Narellan and is a private crematorium on a commercial estate, South West of Sydney.

For a cremation at all other crematoriums, the ashes can be collected from the respective location, as required.

  • ^^ The cremation would be at Macarthur Grange crematorium, near Campbelltown. Ashes can be delivered in person in Canberra and region, sent by Express Registered Post or collected from the crematorium.

  • *With a service in the chapel at Liverpool Cemetery, the cremation actually occurs off site at Kemps Creek Memorial Park. Ashes can be collected from Liverpool Cemetery.

^ With a service in the All Souls Chapel at Rookwood General Cemetery, cremation occurs off site at Australian Cremation Services in St Marys. Ashes can be collected from the cemetery normally within a few days.

  • Please note: before the cremation can proceed, all near relatives need to be advised of the proposed cremation.

  • Another way of asking this question is whether the Coroner needs to be involved in investigating your loved one's death.

Please note: if you answer 'yes', the cremation cannot proceed. You will need to contact the Coroner to discuss the matter (see here).

  • Medical details

  • Do not be concerned if you do not know the answer to these questions about the doctor/s as we can access the information elsewhere. The most common answer to the next two questions about doctors is "No".

  • It is common to know the name of the main specialist who treated a loved one in a hospital. However, it is unusual to know the full name of the last doctor to have seen your loved one alive.

  • If your loved one had a battery powered device, it will need to be removed before the cremation can proceed.

If you are not sure, you may wish to consult with your loved one's General Practitioner.

Incidentally, other types of implants are not removed before the cremation.

  • Radiopharmaceuticals or radioactive compounds are generally used for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes by many medical specialties.

If you are not sure, you may wish to consult with your loved one's General Practitioner.
