Extra information is required to ensure compliance with the meal entertainment rules for self catered functions.
Self catered functions are where you have purchased the food and drink for a special meal rather than having it professionally catered. Self catered functions can include birthday parties held at home, dinner parties with friends, BBQ with friends at home, etc.
You are able to claim the food that you buy from a grocery store, delicatessen, restaurant, etc, for the function and drink that you buy from a bottle shop, hotel, grocery store, etc.
General household food and drink is considered to be sustenance, not meal entertainment, and cannot be claimed. We require that any self catered function must include at least one attendee who is not part of the usual household.
Receipts/invoices must be provided - a credit card statement alone is insufficient substantiation when claiming for a self catered function. The receipt being claimed can only include food or drink for the particular event. It must NOT include any other items or it will not be accepted. For example, a receipt from a butcher is fine if all the items on the receipt are for the party (it cannot be accepted if it includes items for the party and some items of general household food).
Receipts must not be older than 14 days before the function date and must have a value of greater than $15.00
