  • Regeneron ISEF 2022: Atlanta, Georgia

We are pleased to announce that the 2022 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, between May 8 and 13. Regeneron ISEF will be held as a hybrid event with a judged competition and distribution of Grand and Special awards for in-person and virtual finalists. Please check this page for future announcements concerning ISEF and the week of events!

  • Official letter from ISEF regarding the final (Hybrid) stage in America

"The Society is currently planning that the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (Regeneron ISEF) 2022 will be a hybrid event that takes place in Atlanta, Georgia from May 8-13, 2021.  It will include a judged competition and distribution of awards for in-person and virtual finalists.

Due to the international nature of Regeneron ISEF and current CDC and federal guidance concerning international travel and visitors, the Society is prepared to host those that can safely travel to be in Atlanta, Georgia with us and to plan a hybrid event that supports virtual finalists and attendees for those who cannot. We will continue to innovate on ways to make it a positive and valuable experience for everyone involved."

  • Mission and Philosophy Statement

The annual Sichuan Science Fair exists for students at international schools (i.e. - schools that do not admit Chinese citizens) in Mainland China (i.e. - excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) to display scientific and engineering endeavors before their peers and leading members of the scientific community. The fair is open to all students who would qualify as international school students in China, even if they are presently home-schooled. The fair promotes universal standards of honest conduct, meticulous research, and the well-rounded education of the students who participate. It does not discriminate against any projects based on race, color, or creed. This fair is affiliated with the Society for Science and the Public (SSP) and follows its guidelines. In addition to the immediate benefits of a convention of brilliant and hard-working 9th to 12th graders, several projects will be nominated to compete further in the 2022 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). A considerable number of special awards will also be available for outstanding projects at this fair.

  • Who may enter this fair?

This fair is the only regional qualifying fair for the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) open to international high school students living in China. Home-schooled students who have a foreign passport may also enter the Regeneron Sichuan Science Fair. Winners from this fair will be given the opportunity to enter as finalists in Regeneron ISEF. Students may enter projects as a team of two to three students, or they may enter as an individual. Please refer to the ISEF website at https://student.societyforscience.org/ for details on rules, forms, and tips. There are many rules and forms, and each school's projects should fill out approval and research plan forms early in the process, being approved by local authorities (i.e. - SRC, IRB, etc.) *before* experimentation begins and with full documentation submitted for approval by this fair's SRC and/or IRB by Wednesday, December 15, 2021.

SRC = Science Review Committees; IRB = Institutional Review Boards

  • Interested in joining the SRC/IRB?

A Scientific Review Committee (SRC) is a group of adults knowledgeable about regulations concerning experimentation especially with vertebrate animals and potentially hazardous biological agents. An Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee that, according to federal regulations (45-CFR-46), must evaluate the potential physical and/or psychological risk of research involving human participants. All proposed human research must be reviewed and approved by an IRB before experimentation begins. This includes review of any surveys or questionnaires to be used in a project. If you are a coach/director/expert/instructor and would like to join one of the two mentioned committees and actively participate as a judge, make a note on the bottom of this form!

  • Deadlines - Nov. 19 & Dec. 15, 2021

The deadline for school registration for the number of projects (but no project detail) is Friday, November 19, 2021. The school’s contact person will be emailed with the Project Registration Form in late November. Please fill this out and reply with Abstracts by Wednesday, December 15, 2019. This is an early date, but with Christmas/Winter Vacation(s) shortly after that date for many international schools, and the need to purchase tickets to and reserve hotel rooms in Chengdu in February, the Fair SRC and IRB need to return feedback on the Abstract and other forms before purchases are finalized. If you are concerned with the dates because your school's in-house science fair is not until after the Christmas break, please let me know in advance so I don't exclude your school.

  • Who should enter another fair?

This qualifying fair is open only to international students in Mainland China. Students with non-Chinese passports who attend schools where a foreign passport is NOT required are NOT eligible for the Regeneron Sichuan Science Fair. Those students, as well as students from Chinese schools (even those with International Divisions), should enter CASTIC (fair code: CHN 001), which is the Chinese qualifying fair. Home-schooled students who have a foreign passport may enter the Regeneron Sichuan Science Fair.

  • Important Information Regarding Chaperones and Judges

Each school is required to send at least one adult chaperone with their students whose focus is solely supervision.

The judging of projects will take place in two rounds. Judges may judge either or both rounds. The more judges we have, the more valid the results would be. First-round judges need only to have an understanding of the scientific method, regardless of their level of knowledge in the particular field of science the project addresses. Each project needs to be judged only twice in the first round. Second-round judges will be selected from among the more expert attending judges for those projects in contention, while every project will receive a visit from at least one judge during the second round.

  • Important Information Regarding Payment Responsibility for Feb. 2022

There is a registration fee to this qualifying fair in February in Chengdu, due by December 16, 2021. Price for the fair: 1000 RMB per in person project. Travel to Chengdu and hotel payments are the responsibility of the participants' schools. Lunch will be provided on Saturday, February 19. Transportation from the Chengdu Shuangliu airport to your hotel and bussing to the fair will also be provided. Please contact Helen Hu at helen.hu@cdischina.com to set up payment for registration. Finances are governed by the Finance Office of one of our sponsors, Chengdu International School. A refund of 90% of registration fees requested before January 24, 2022, will be made electronically to the appropriate recipient(s) for projects that are unable to attend. Refunds requested after January 24, 2022, will not be given. For schools wishing to participate completely virtually, the price is 500 RMB per project. This covers fair fees and other expenses.
