  • When you visit our store, you can expect to find high-quality, gently used gear and clothing at 30 - 60 % off MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price). Occasionally, you may also find further discounted items in the bargain section of the shop. These items have some flaws or more than normal wear and tear, 

    What We Accept/When We Accept It

    CAMPING | SPRING-FALL

    Most shapes & sizes of tents and backpacks are welcome. Tents must be clean and functional. All zippers must be working.

     APPAREL | YEAR-ROUND

    Technical garments only! (NO OLD NAVY, GAP, ECT.)
    All apparel must be clean and fully functional. That means no holes, rips, tears or other flaws with the clothes. 

     KAYAKS | YEAR-ROUND

    We will take most sizes and shapes. All watercraft must be fully functional and hole free. All boats should be taken to the Paddle Sports Center

    PADDLING GEAR | FALL-SPRING

    Must be clean, fully functional, and free of holes. This category covers everything from paddles & dry tops to wet suits & dry bags.

    SKI GEAR | FALL-WINTER

    No rear entry boots and all downhill skis must be shaped. No straight skis. XC skis must have a currently manufactured binding system. Downhill skis must be free of major damage and have a current manufacturer indemnified binding.

    SNOWBOARD GEAR | FALL-SPRING

    No step-in bindings or boots. Boards must be in relatively good condition, and are free of major damage. Boots must have laces and insoles.

    CLIMBING GEAR | YEAR-ROUND

    We only buy shoes, crash pads, axes, and other non safety rated equipment.

    WHAT BRANDS ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

    We prefer high quality brands that are favored by outdoor enthusiasts, but are happy to look into brands that are new to us. Some of our favorites include:

    Arc’teryx, Asolo, Bedrock Sandles, Big Agnes, Black Diamond, Darn Tough, Chaco, Columbia, Cotopaxi, Deuter, ENO, Garmont, Icebreaker, Innova, Keen, Kelty, La Sportiva, Lowe Alpine, Mammut, Marmot, Mountain Hardware, MSR, Ortovox, Osprey, Outdoor Research, Patagonia, Petzl, Rab, REI, Salomon, Salewa, SmartWool, The North Face, Thermarest, Vasque, Woolrich, Yama Mountain Gear, Sorrel,...and many more. We are always open to any new brands which you may have acquired throughout your travels.

    We do not accept of sell Fashion brand clothing including Adidas, Nike, Under Armor, GAP, Banana Republic, Old Navy, etc.  

    PRICING

    Items we sell are typically priced at 30-60% off the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP). We determine current MSRP by comparing your products with the prices listed for the same items sold from reputable outdoor websites like backcountry.com, trailspace.com, moosejaw.com, etc.  When you bring in gear that is brand new with tags on it, we begin listing these items at 30% off MSRP. If your item is lightly used but in excellent condition, and it is a desirable brand such as Patagonia, REI, Icebreaker, The North Face, etc., it will be marked at 40% off MSRP.  Prices will drop further based on your item’s condition, seasonality, and our current inventory.

    Items that don’t sell at the initial price are discounted monthly and may be lowered by 10% every month until the item reaches 50% off of the listed price. High Desert Outdoors & Exchange reserves the right to reduce prices further for sales or promotions.

  • Consignment Terms & Conditions

    • Consignors receive 40% of sale price for items OR 50% in store credit for soft goods

    • Consignors receive 40% of sale price for items OR 50% in store credit for hard goods

    • Consignments are accepted by appointment ONLY for 5 or more items

      Second Ascent reserves the right to refuse any item(s), for any reason

      Pricing is determined by Second Ascent, unless previously agreed upon between consignor and Second Ascent management prior to consignment.

    • We look at comparative items, internet sales and, based on condition and brand, items will be priced accordingly

    • It is the responsibility of the consignor to maintain a list of items dropped off for consignment and to track the status of their items.  The consignor will not be contacted when items sell or notified of expiry dates.  Once items are priced, the consignor may request a print out of all items under their account. 

    • All items must be clean and free of damage, holes & stains.  Gear must be in good working order. 

    • Second Ascent will strive to take the best care of all items on consignment.  Second Ascent is not responsible for damage to items customer(s), fire/smoke, water, theft or any other casualty of loss. We will take every measure to prevent such loss or damage.

    Consignment Period for Seasonal Clothing:

    • Spring/Summer will be accepted March 1st to August 1st
    • Unsold items must be retrieved by September 15th
    • Fall/Winter will be accepted October 1st to March 1st 
    • Unsold items must be retrieved by March 15th  
    • Any items not retrieved by expiration dates, will become property of Second Ascent and may be donated.
    • Due to our small space, weather may be taken into consideration for receiving clothing items for either season.   
    • The above dates may be changed at any time.

    Gear will be consigned without any standard time limit. This will be decided based on the season and available space in the shop. Items will remain in the shop for a minimum of 90 days. Should items need to be picked up during the 90 days due to not selling, consignors will be contacted for pickup. Once contacted for pickup, items must be picked up within 7 days. If not picked up within 7 days, items will become property of the store and may be donated.

    Items will be automatically marked down 10% after 30 days and an additional 30% after 45 days.  Second Ascent reserves the right to take additional markdowns at any time during the consignment period, i.e. end-of-season sales, holiday sales or other promotions.  Larger ticket items and new with tags items will not be marked down on this normal schedule, but at the discretion of the store management (but not before 45 days of receipt).  

    Payment Policy

    All balances may be maintained on account as a store credit, balances do not expire.  Pay-outs will be paid by check or store credit.  Checks must be picked up from the store unless arranged otherwise.
