Deadline 1st semester- en year-long courses: October 15th
Deadline 2nd semestercourses: February 15th
Practical information
- Each student may submit one application per academic year per programme. Please take care to thoroughly examine which exemptions you want to apply for. Read through the description of your VUB-programme and ascertain which courses from your past studies may be the equivalent of a VUB-course.
- Only applications that are complete and submitted before the deadline will be considered.
- Read the following procedure carefully before submitting an application.
Submitting a complete exemption application is made up out of two steps:
- Fill in the overview file below to declare for which courses you are applying for an exemption. Don’t fill in the fields ‘Decision’ and ‘Motivation’.
- After submitting this form, you will receive a link to another form where you can apply for an exemption per course by correctly filling in all the requested information.
Important guidelines
- The difference in ECTS-credits between the course for which the exemption is requested and the course(s) on the basis of which the exemption is requested can be at most 1 ECTS-credit.
- Failed courses and ‘tolerated fails’ are not eligible for exemptions, nor for partial exemptions.
- Courses from a ‘professional bachelor’ are not eligible for course exemptions in an academic program, since the academic and research-oriented components are insufficiently represented in those courses.
- Applications for exemptions for remedial and reorientation courses will not be approved.
- It is not necessary to apply for an exemption for identical VUB-courses that you have already previously completed (in a different programme). The acquired grade will be automatically transferred to your current programme.
- Exemptions for electives are only possible for courses that are in the list of electives for the programme.
- Specifically for courses from a master’s program: students who are granted an exemption for a (mandatory or elective) course based on courses from a bachelor’s programme, can be asked to enroll in a different course from the programme.
