  • The Unified Champion Schools (UCS) program aims to promote social inclusion through intentionally planned and implemented activities affecting systems-wide change. With sports as the foundation, the three-component model offers a unique combination of effective activities that equip young people with tools and training to create climates of acceptance. These are school-wide climates where students of all abilities feel welcome and are routinely included in and feel a part of, all activities, opportunities and functions.

    Who can be a UCS Coordinator?

    Any member of staff within the school who has a passion for creating an inclusive school environment.

     

    What is the role of the UCS Coordinator?

    The main point of contact for communication with SOUAE
    The collection of students’ rosters and supporting evidence
    Reporting school progress at the end of every semester
    The UCS Coordinator is encouraged to divide and assign programs to other teachers, for example, PE teacher to run Unified Sports – Science teacher to run Unified Robotics – Drama teacher for Unified Leaders Club, etc.

  • Unified Sports League is a year-long competition that includes two sports: Unified Football and Unified Badminton. The 2022/23 program is offered throughout the school year. Starting with registration, team formation, coach and team training are held during the first semester. The program then includes regional qualifications and national finals across semesters two and three. The regional qualifications include competition within Abu Dhabi Region, Dubai and the Northern Emirates. The National Finals will be held in May 2023. 

     

    The goal of the program is to ensure that every team member is playing a meaningful role and have the opportunity to contribute his or her strengths to the team. There should be significant teamwork and communication among teammates that allows everyone to participate fully and enjoy a  positive experience.

     

    Participating schools will receive a separate deck with more information on Unified Sports League. The deck will include program format, training details for team coaches and schedules for the regional qualifications and national finals.

  • Unified Sports League (USL) Coach

    Who can be a USL Coach?
    A school faculty member who has a passion for inclusion and working with students with intellectual or developmental disabilities and is eager to learn more about leading a team and enriching his/her experience.


    What are the USL coach's responsibilities?
    The main point of contact between the school & SO UAE. Acting as a mentor and a coach for the team members:

    • Team formation and recruitment
    • Scheduling and running team practice sessions
    • Providing sports equipment
    • Working to improve team unity and sportsmanship
    • Ensuring all team members get equal playing time
    • Emphasizing skills development including safety, fair play, and sportsmanship
    • Setting realistic and age-appropriate expectations for team members
    • Ensuring proper sideline behaviour from team members, schools members and parents
    • Ensuring the safety of the team during practice sessions and games
    • Inviting the school community to cheer and support the team during practice sessions and games
    • Securing transportation for the team during qualification and final rounds
  • Unified Robotics is an enrichment program that aims to excite neurodiverse students about robotics and inspires them to participate in STEM activities and consider these subjects for higher education and as future careers. Unified Robotics is aimed at students in two age categories; 8-11 years old and above 12 years old.

  • Unified Robotics (UR) Coach

     

    Who can be a UR coach?
    A school faculty member who has a passion for inclusion and working with students with intellectual or developmental disabilities and is eager to learn more about leading a team and enriching his/her experience.


    What are the UR coach's responsibilities?
    The main point of contact between the school & SO UAE.
    Acting as a mentor for the team members, guiding them in the
    processes of selecting, executing and tracking their participation.

    • Scheduling and running team practice sessions
    • Providing robotics equipment
    • Working to improve team unity and sportsmanship
    • Ensuring all team members get equal participation time
