  • To be eligible for CPCE certification, the candidate must meet one of the following requirements:

    • Minimum 36 months full-time experience in the catering and events industry within the past 5 years
    • Minimum 24 months full-time experience in the catering and events industry within the past 5 years in addition to a hospitality degree
    • Minimum 36 months full-time experience in academia as an instructor of catering and events in addition to one year of professional experience in the industry
  • There are 4 steps to apply for CPCE:

    1. Complete and submit the CPCE Application
    2. Complete and submit documentation of professional experience
    3. Complete and submit documentation of 30 educational contact hours
    4. Payment

    Candidates with a current supervisor: Complete the below PDF Supervisor Verification Form, then upload the form in the next field. Note: signatures are required from the supervisor and candidate.

    Business Owners: Upload one or more of the following, documenting at least 3 years of full-time professional experience:

    • Business Licence
    • Client Testimonials
    • History of business from website

    Candidates who are currently unemployed due to COVID-19: Upload one or more of the following, documenting at least 3 years of full-time professional experience:

  • Step 3: Documentation of 30 Educational Contact Hours


    To be eligible for the CPCE exam, candidates must have a minimum of 30 educational contact hours. These hours are accumulated from education programs aligned with one or more of CPCE’s eight core competencies. Participation must have occurred within the past 5 years. CPCE contact hours are the direct amount of time spent in education, calculated to the quarter-hour. For example, 75 minutes of education = 1.25 contact hours. Also, 0.1 CEU = 1 CPCE contact hour. Types of accepted education include, but are not limited to:

    • Industry conferences and seminars
    • Company/organization sponsored continuing education or training
    • Local professional development, including certificate programs and seminars
    • NACE education programs including Experience, Evolve, chapter educational programs, webinars, and online education
    • Allied association education programs (based on acceptance by NACE)

     

    Documentation Guidelines

    Documentation must be submitted to receive contact hours for application approval.
    Documentation must include dates, educational hours, session descriptions, and proof of attendance. The education provider must be recognized by organization letterhead or similar representation.

     Below is an example of acceptable documentation. Clearly displayed are the date, educational hours, proof of attendance, and provider letterhead. This, accompanied by the conference schedule, provides all necessary information for documentation.

  • Step 4: Payment

    The candidate is required to pay $75 toward the $525 CPCE application fee.

    The NACE Black Caucus, with the support of the Foundation of NACE, will pay the remaining $450 toward the $525 CPCE application fee when the scholarship is awarded.

    If the candidate is not awarded the scholarship, they may either pay the remaining $450 or forfeit the $75.

    To pay the $75 toward CPCE application as a scholarship candidate, please email cpce@nace.net and NACE staff will setup online payment.
