Honor or Memorialize a Loved One with a Donation to Sew Powerful

The proceeds from your donation will go to the Sew Powerful ministry in the African country of Zambia. Sew Powerful trains and employs women affected by extreme poverty, empowering them to earn a good wage, provide for their families, and know the dignity of work. Each year, Sew Powerful seamstresses sew tens of thousands of reusable hygiene pad sets. These hygiene sets, along with soap and underwear, are gifted to schoolgirls in Zambia in a beautifully made purse sewn and donated to Sew Powerful by volunteer purse makers from around the world. Without these hygiene sets, girls often miss school during their period, greatly impacting their school performance. Education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty in Zambia and saving girls from a life of hardship and exploitation. Your donation will bring a miracle to the lives of the seamstresses, as well as the countless girls who will benefit from their work. Thank you for your generosity!

  • What does it cost to keep a girl in school all month long? A gift of $50 covers the labor and materials for 5 hygiene sets with soap and underwear, employing women and helping 5 schoolgirls stay in school all month. Our goal is to distribute hygiene sets with soap and underwear to the girls in all 3800 schools in Zambia. We want to accomplish this goal by 2030. Your gift of any amount gets us closer to achieving this goal and supports our mission to educate, employ, and empower people to pursue life in all its fullness.

  • Plant a Garden: When you choose 'Plant a Garden', your gift helps plant a garden in the African Country of Zambia. The funds will be used to purchase seedlings, fertilizer, water, tools, and to pay a stipend to a gardener in our Tikondane program. It costs about $50 to start one garden, but any amount is welcomed. Tikondane means ‘Love One Another' in the local Nyanja language. The gardeners plant vegetables in backyards in the Ngombe Compound, an extremely poor urban slum. The produce grown in the gardens provides life-saving food and nutrition to large households of 8 to 10 family members.  The stipends earned by the gardeners help support their own families. Their jobs are to plant, tend, water, and harvest the produce for the first two growing seasons while training the residents to be self-sufficient in caring for their gardens after that. The gardens really do make a huge difference.
