Study Abroad Course Approval Form

Please note that the maximum number of courses per Study Abroad Course Approval Form is 10 courses. If you need to submit additional courses, you can complete another Study Abroad Course Approval Form. 

The Office of the Registrar will evaluate all Study Abroad coursework for transfer eligibility and equivalents and assign numeric credit designations. If needed, the Registrar will consult with the appropriate academic departments regarding major coursework. Please allow 2 weeks after submission to the Office of the Registrar to receive final signed approvals.

A completed Study Abroad Course Approval Form grants transfer credit as indicated, as long as a grade of “C” or better (or the equivalent of a “C” if the host institution uses a different grading scale) is obtained.

For students participating on provider (with the exception of the Emmanuel in Leeds program) or an exchange program: If these conditions are met, the credit, not course grade, will be added to the Emmanuel College transcript and thus does not impact the Emmanuel GPA.

For students participating on the Emmanuel in Leeds program: If these conditions are met, the credit and course grades will be added to the Emmanuel College transcript and do impact the Emmanuel GPA.

Courses completed at the equivalent of regionally-accredited post-secondary institutions that are comparable in content, scope, and rigor to course offerings at Emmanuel College will be considered for transfer credit. In general, courses must be 3-4 semester credits, or the equivalent, to transfer credit. In instances where the host institution follows a different credit system (such as ECTS credits) individual credit amounts will be assigned at the time of transfer.

Students who receive credit for a course that is approved as an Emmanuel equivalent cannot also receive credit for the Emmanuel course on his/her transcript. Credit will be added to the Emmanuel transcript upon receipt of an official sealed transcript from the host institution.

Students must complete the Study Abroad Course Approval form to receive transfer credit and to be considered an official "Emmanuel College Study Abroad student". Once a student confirms they are studying abroad, a placeholder registration (ABRD*001) will be added to the registration schedule for the term abroad.

Students ordinarily may not take courses at another institution during their final semester at Emmanuel College. If you are planning to Study Abroad in your final semester, you should contact the Office of the Registrar to discuss the ramifications of doing so.

Credit taken through an approved Study Abroad program is considered "in residence" and counts toward the 64 credits that must be completed at Emmanuel College to earn a Bachelor's degree.
