    The Strategic Plan is a document used to align an organisation’s daily operation and budget structure with the organisation’s priorities, mission, and objectives. The Strategic Plan includes: Vision; Mission; Long-Term Goals / Objectives / Key Performance Measurements; Strategic Priorities to Achieve the Goals / Objectives / KPIs.

    A SWOT analysis helps with understanding where the organisation currently is.  SWOT represents the first letter in:

    S – Strengths

    W – Weaknesses

    O – Opportunities

    T – Threats

    These elements are crucial in assessing the strategic position of OSFO to build on the strengths; shore up the weaknesses; capitalise on the opportunities; and recognise the threats.

     

     

  • Strengths and Weaknesses are essentially internal to the organisation and relate to matters concerning resources, programs and organisation in four key areas:

    –       Governance – policies, structure and function

    –       Business – administration, finance, IT, promotion

    –       Services – club services, education, membership

    –       Sport – programs, pathways, high performance, sport resources, events

    Opportunities and Threats are external to the organisation.  External forces include:

    –       Government and political

    –       Legal

    –       Technological

    –       Social and ethical

    –       Commercial

    –       Environmental

  • The Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) will help identify possible strategies by building on strengths, resolving weaknesses, exploiting opportunities and avoiding threats.

  • Vision – A Vision Statement is the anchor point of any strategic plan.  It outlines what an organisation would like to ultimately achieve and gives purpose to the existence of the organisation.  The Vision should be aspirational, inspirational and motivational.

    The current OSFO Vision Statement is:  'To be the Leader in advocating Sports' collaboration throughout Oceania.'

    Some other inspiring vision statement examples include:

    Disney – To make people happy

    Oxfam – A just world without poverty

    Microsoft – Empower every person and every organisation on the planet to achieve more

    Nike – Bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete* in the world. (*If you have a body, you are an athlete)

  • Mission – While the Vision Statement outlines what an organisation strives for in the future, the Mission Statement describes what the organisation wants to do now.  It should be a succinct encapsulation of the organisational strategy:

    –       Why the organisation exists

    –       Whom it serves

    –       How it serves them

    The current OSFO Mission Statement is:  'To Create, Sustain, Develop and Advocate an enabling environment that assists our Members to enhance the role of sport in all communities in the Oceania Region.'

    Other examples of Mission Statements:

    Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) – The best performing Continental Association by:  Building and Strengthening Capacity, Cultivating regional and global partnerships, Contributing towards sporting excellence and leading by example.

    Badminton Oceania – To lead and strengthen, in partnership with our stakeholders, innovative, sustainable and exciting development and event initiatives.

    Oceania Basketball – To develop the sustainable growth of basketball in Oceania through internationally comparable structures, systems and processes.

  • To help us review the Mission Statement for OSFO please answer the following questions in your own words:

  • Values – Values represent the core priorities in the organisation’s culture, including what drives members’ priorities and how they truly act in the organisation, etc.  They describe the core ethics or principles which the organisation will abide by, no matter what.

    OSFO’s current core values listed in the Strategic Plan are:  "Respect, Inclusiveness, Gathering, Honesty, Transparency (R-I-G-H-T)".

    Other examples of Core Values are:

    International Olympic Committee – Excellence, Friendship, Respect

    Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee – Honesty, Excellence, Respect, Openness

    Fiji Rugby Union - integrity, solidarity, respect, discipline and passion

  • Thank you for taking the time to contribute to the development of the OSFO Strategic Plan 2022-2025.

    In follow up to this survey, the data from contributors will be collated and two 90-minute Zoom workshops will be held at 1700 AEDT on 20 October and 10 November 2021.  Zoom meeting invites will be emailed to OSFO member sports and survey respondents.
