Trauma-responsive: We believe that our ministry should be relationally dense and facilitate agency and voice for the people we serve. We are committed to healing and hope.
Community-focused: We believe God has called us to serve our neighbors on the margins.
Local-church based: We were founded by the local church, work in close partnership with the local church, and believe the local church is a place of home and healing for those who have experienced trauma.

Code of Conduct

Programming Policies

Our goal is to care for the children, youth, and families who are a part of One Hope Tulsa. We want to use the influence and authority that we have to protect and serve the children and youth in our care. Please read the following carefully.

Accountability and Visibility Standards: • All workers are subject to the code of conduct. It is your responsibility to immediately report any breach of this code or boundary violation (yours or another worker’s) to program leaders. • Any child/youth who engages in inappropriate conduct should be reported to program leaders. This includes children/ youth who engage in sexually inappropriate behavior or language, physical aggression, bullying, etc. • As much as possible, activities with minors should occur in highly visible, public areas.*

I understand and agree to always abide by the accountability and visibility standards of the One Hope Code of Conduct while volunteering or working for One Hope in any capacity.

Appropriate Speech Standards: • Your words should support, encourage, and bless children/youth, and should include affirmation and positive reinforcement. • Words that harm should be avoided. They include: Language that is shaming, belittling, humiliating, or threatening. Name-calling, cursing, harsh rebuking, or making derogatory remarks about a child, youth, family, or people groups. • The following are also prohibited: Language that shows deferential treatment to particular children to the exclusion of others, telling off-color or sexual jokes, making sexually suggestive comments, sharing personal sexual or romantic relationship information, or discussing sexual encounters or desires with children, and making inappropriate comments related to physique or body development.*

Interacting Standards: • Always be positive and encouraging in your interaction with the children/ youth. • Never, ever be rough with a child/ youth or hit, strike, or harm a child in any way. • Look for opportunities to encourage children and affirm their value. • Maintain an attitude of respect towards children/ youth and their families. Speak of and about children/youth and their families in a way that communicates that respect. • Touch should be open and public, rather than secretive. • Touch should be in response to the need of the child/ youth, not the need of the adult. • Touch should be age appropriate. • Touch should be with the child’s permission. If the child/ youth resists, the worker should respect the child’s response and stop touching him/her. • Touch should always communicate respect for the child/ youth. Adults should avoid doing things of a personal nature for a child/ youth that he/she is able to do for himself/herself, including dressing, bathing, etc. • Touch should not include violent behavior. Adults and other children/youth should not hit, slap, pinch, or push a child/youth, even in jest. • See the interacting guidelines for the specific program/event for more information.*

Appropriate Conduct Standards: • Under no circumstances should staff or volunteers touch a child for disciplinary reasons- no hitting, slapping, pinching, spanking, shoving, or grabbing, etc. Physical force can only be used when deemed necessary to prevent harm. • If staff or volunteer’s own children or siblings are participating in or present at the program, then any public disciple should be inside the interacting guidelines. • One Hope seeks to create trauma-responsive spaces where children, teens and families are handled with care. • Carrying weapons is strictly prohibited for volunteers and staff.*

Two Adult Policy: • Two adults must be always present in the building when working with minors, except in the case of a clear emergency. • If only one adult is working in a room, then a minimum of two children/youth should be present, and the meeting/activity must be in a public area that is accessible to others (door left open or window in the door), except in the case of a clear emergency.*

I understand and agree to always abide by the Two Adult Rule in the One Hope Code of Conduct while volunteering or working for One Hope in any capacity.

Drug and Alcohol Policy: Individuals under the influence of drugs or alcohol present safety and health risks to themselves, those they serve, and those they serve alongside. The following conduct is prohibited: • Use, possession, sale, purchase or transfer of illegal drugs by volunteers while volunteering or while on One Hope property. • Use or possession of alcohol or illegal drugs while operating One Hope vehicles, whether owned, leased or rented by One Hope or a personal vehicle used for the organization's purposes. • Consumption, possession or sale of alcoholic beverages while volunteering, on One Hope property, while operating a One Hope Vehicle or a personal vehicle used for the organization's purposes. • Being under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs while volunteering, on Agency property, while operating a One Hope Vehicle or a personal vehicle used for the organization's purposes, or during the hiring process. • • Volunteering while under the influence of a legal drug if safety is compromised or if job performance is significantly affected. • Abuse of legal drugs while volunteering, including, but not limited to, distribution, abusive use or selling. The use, being under the influence of alcohol, an illegal drug, or a legal drug, may be determined by a positive test result and/or subjective or objective factors.*

I understand and agree to always abide by the Drug and Alcohol Policy in the One Hope Code of Conduct while volunteering or working for One Hope in any capacity.

Technology Policies: • All use of phones, the internet, TV, and movies must be monitored when children/youth are in our care. • All pornography and sexually explicit or suggestive content is strictly prohibited (internet or phones) and must be reported immediately. • Cyberbullying (via phones or the internet) must be reported immediately. • Workers should avoid personal use of their phones or other technology while volunteering. • No person shall access a computer, phone, files, applications, etc. belonging to another volunteer or staff member without that individual’s consent. • Workers should refrain from developing relationships with children/ youth over any form of electronic media since that is not open and observable.*

I understand and agree to always abide by the Technology Policies in the One Hope Code of Conduct while volunteering or working for One Hope in any capacity.

Medical Policies: • If it’s wet and it’s not yours, don’t touch it. Use a paper towel or gloves to clean it up. • Do not administer medication (yours or theirs) to children/youth without express permission. • Send children to program leaders if they say they are sick or if they seem to need medical care. • If you are feeling sick, do not volunteer. If you become sick while volunteering, inform a staff member before leaving to get medical care or to go home.*

Bathroom Use Policies: • Children/ youth who are sent to the bathroom alone should have a bathroom pass from their teacher or be following the specific procedures of that program. • If a volunteer walks children to the bathroom, the volunteer should stand in the door or hallway outside the bathroom. Volunteers should never enter the bathroom and close the door or enter the stall with a child/ youth. • If a child/youth needs assistance or supervision in the bathroom, one volunteer must stand in the door while another volunteer assists. When only one volunteer is present, the volunteer should not enter the bathroom unless there is a clear emergency. • Volunteers and staff should use the designated staff bathroom during programs.*

Dress Code: • No exposed midriffs, short shorts, spaghetti straps, see-through shirts, skin-tight shirts or pants, explicit content on t-shirts, or visible undergarments. • No headphones, ear buds, or air pods should be worn for personal use while volunteering during programs.*

I understand and agree to always abide by the Dress Code Policies in the One Hope Code of Conduct while volunteering or working for One Hope in any capacity.

I understand that failure to abide by the Code of Conduct will be addressed by the One Hope Staff, will involve the appropriate authorities, and may result in the termination of my position.

Liability and Media Release

I agree to familiarize myself with, and abide by, One Hope's rules and policies including but not limited to policies related to safety and conduct. I understand that as a One Hope employee I am to conduct myself in a way that is in keeping with the beliefs, values, and policies of One Hope and in obedience to all the laws of the state of Oklahoma and the United States. I understand that I may be subject to the same pre-employment screening and background checks as paid employees performing similar duties. If my duties include driving on One Hope business, I understand that I must possess a valid driver's license and that I may be subject to a Department of Motor Vehicle's driver's license background check. I assume responsibility for any harm caused to myself or others while I am driving on One Hope business. I am undertaking the responsibility of being a One Hope employee voluntarily and I assume all responsibility for myself and for anyone who acts under my direction. I hold One Hope Ministry, its agents and employees harmless, and I indemnify One Hope from any and all liabilities arising from my involvement in activities related to One Hope. I give One Hope permission to run background checks on me as they see necessary. Finally, I understand that One Hope may end my employment with One Hope at any time for any reason. My consent below affirms that all information on this form is accurate to the best of my knowledge and that I agree to abide by the conditions outlined above. Further, I give One Hope permission to use my photograph and/or videos of and/or interviews with me to promote One Hope.
