Everyone working at 13 Stories understands and agrees that he/she is a VOLUNTEER. This means that you are not paid as an hourly employee. However, if several simple VERY IMPORTANT requirements are followed you will be paid a cash stipend at the end of the year. The US Department of Labor provides an exemption to seasonal business to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Section 13(a)(3) provides an exemption from the minimum wage and overtime provisions of the FLSA for "any employee employed by an establishment which is an amusement or recreational establishment, if it does not operate for more than seven months in any calendar year”.
Cash Stipends and Requirements
All cast and crew members and makeup artists at 13 Stories will be given a $50 stipend for each full night worked at 13 Stories Haunted House begiining Oct. 1st, 2021. $30 before October 1st. You will be given this stipend for each FULL night worked if you work at least 75% of the remaining open dates (rounded UP) of 13 Stories AND finish the season. Working a full night/date (actors and crew)means working from the time you are required to be here until the last customer leaves and our nightly meeting is over. Make Up artists need to complete a full make up session. You must also receive NO RULES VIOLATIONS.
