  • Welcome to the Chateaubriand Fellowship Program application for Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) sponsored by the Embassy of France in the US. This program allows young scholars to broaden their experience and networks by spending several months at a French higher-education institution. The fellows will be able to engage in dissertation research and interact with a French mentor and scholars.

     

    Application Guidelines: 

    • All fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required. You will not be able to submit your application until all required items are complete.
    • You do not need to complete this application in one sitting. To save your response, click "Save" located at the bottom of the page (Submit Application section). You will be able to access any work saved during your next session. However, once you SUBMIT your application, you CANNOT make changes to it.
    • To submit your application, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Review Answers" - you will then be able to review your application and submit it. 
    • You must complete and submit this application by the deadline to be considered for the fellowship.

    Additional Tips:

    • Have the fellowship description available for reference.
    • Prepare answers to longer questions ahead; you can copy and paste information into all text boxes.
    • Prepare required documents and save them in PDF format.
    • Review your application for errors.

    Required Documents: 

    • Detailed description of your research project
    • Letter of support from your US advisor 
    • Letter of invitation from your project advisor in France with your planned semester dates, either fall from September 1st up to December 31st or for spring either January 1st up to April 30th or February 1st up to May 31st 
    • Up to 3 letters of recommendation 
    • Copies of your transcripts. 

    We will not review incomplete applications.
