Transporting
Transporting is a very rewarding and important job that all rescues need and depend on. Helping to get our Boxers safely to their foster homes as fast and with the less trauma as possible for the dogs. You will find that some dogs are just happy to go for a ride while some are very scared. Treat them as you would your own personal dog with love, patience and care.
Transporter will pick up/drop off dog at approved locations and to appropriate person. You may potty the dog and provide water at transfer spot. If person for pickup is running behind, you may walk dog in the area while waiting only if dog has on a martingale collar with tag. Keep dogs away from people and other dogs while in your care. Puppies that have not had their shots are to remain in the crate for duration of transport due to health issues.
No unsupervised or off leash allowed. Please get gas and use the bathroom before you receive the dog. If you must for emergency purpose leave the dog in the car for these reasons stated above, no more than 5 min and never if the temp is above 70 degrees.
No prong collars, shock collars, retractable leashes are to be used at any time.
If Martingale collar is not supplied for the dog please make sure collar is on snug for transport.
Transporters are donating their time and gas. No compensation for these expenses although you can keep track of your mileage and use it on your taxes at the end of the year.
Owner surrenders are to be treated with respect, privacy and compassion.
All paperwork, supplies, donations are to stay with the dog until reaching the last transporter or foster.
Dogs will be either crated or tethered while loaded into car to keep them safe. Never leave a car door opened after dog is loaded. Dogs can be very nervous and scared at these times and we don’t want them jumping out of the car. This is why teething the leash to somewhere in the car asap keeps them safe and no chance for accidents.
Dogs are never to ride in the truck bed or a convertible with the top down. Windows are not to be left down far enough for the dog to fit his head out.
Things transporters should have on hand. Water and a bowl. Spare leash and collar. Martingales are preferred. And treats are always highly recommended and welcomed.
When figuring out the transport time I allow 15 min for potty, water and hand off. Please be sure to not take too long to chat since we have others waiting ahead for their designated time. If you have questions before, during and after transport or an emergency please contact me via phone. My number will be placed on the transport thread for your use.
Ensure window controls are locked out to prevent accidental opening or closing of windows by the dog being transported. We network through Facebook so all the numbers and meet up locations will be stated there with the times for handoffs. Please don’t change these without contacting me first. Please post updates on this thread and also all pictures.
