PLEASE NOTE: Due to the overwhelming popularity of the Ashbery Typewriter, all of our solo sessions have booked up for the Fall 2021 semester. We will announce more opportunities for Winter-Spring 2022 sessions shortly. In the meantime, we welcome Boston-area educators and artists to contact us about integrating the typewriter into their classes and/or artistic projects in the future. See contact info below.
The Woodberry Poetry Room invites you to celebrate the generous and generative spirit of John Ashbery (1927-2017) by creating your own poems on the very instrument on which he wrote some of his works. Thanks to Ashbery's husband David Kermani, we have the pleasure of welcoming the poet's Royal KMM to the Poetry Room, with the hopes that it will be the site of renewed creation, playfulness, imagination, transformation, provocation, and conversation.
Beginning in mid-October, we will have 2 one-hour time-slots available on Wednesdays from 1:00-3:00pm. In an effort to offer this experience to as many writers as possible, we ask that you limit your reservations to a single one-hour session per semester. We may increase the number of sessions available, pending Covid-19 considerations. If so, we will announce this update via social media. All visitors are required to present proof of vaccination and a form of photo ID at the main entrance to Lamont Library. Masks are required.
This form is the preferred registration method, but if you experience any challenges, please feel free to contact us via email at poetryrm.harvard.edu.
As mentioned above, all October-December 2021 sessions have been booked for now. If you click "SUBMIT" below, we will put you on our mailing list to receive an announcement when future sessions become available next semester.
