  • Section 1: How to complete this form

  • 1) Before you begin your application:

    • Ensure that you have read the funding criteria in Section 3 below.
    • Discuss the proposed activity with your colleague(s) at Tohoku University and gain their commitment to go ahead should funding be received.
    • Allow time to talk to your departmental administrator or person(s) responsible for departmental finances in order to obtain the necessary financial information requested in section 4, and faculty guidance on funding requirements. 

    2) How to save and come back later. Two options:

    • 'Cut and paste' from a Word document:  prepare answers on a word document then 'cut and paste' into the online form when you are ready to submit your application.  Please note only applications submitted via the online form will be considered.
    • Save and edit using the online system (see the bottom of the form for instructions, section 5)

  • Section 2: About you and your Tohoku University colleagues

  • A. Your information

  • Criteria: applications are open to individual UCL staff, from lecturers to professors, including all levels of Research or Teaching Fellows.  We will allocate one award per person. In line with UCL as commitment to equality and diversity, we encourage applications from a range of backgrounds regardless of career stage, age, disability, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and religion.

  • Section 3: About the activity

  • Given the uncertainty surrounding international travel, we strongly encourage applicants to explore methods of remote collaboration. Activities can include:

    • Developing joint research projects.
    • Organising a joint seminar/workshop (remotely or in person, with travel restrictions in mind), including costs for any external services required to facilitate seminar/workshop. E.g. Professional moderation or technical support.
    • Visiting a collaborator to work on a research paper/project or other research activity that cannot be carried out remotely.
    • Stipends for research assistants, interns and students.
    • Doctoral student mobility.
    • Services used to disseminate results.
    • This list isn’t exhaustive and we understand that there may be other ways you wish to conduct the project.

    Funding will not be provided to projects that:

    • Do not involve participants from both UCL and Tohoku University.
    • Include activity that has already taken place.

  • Section 4: Funding amount

  • E. Funds transfer

    Successful recipients will receive funds using the internal UCL transfer process known as 'inter-departmental transfer' (IDT). Please speak to your departmental administrator or person(s) responsible for departmental finances to obtain this information.

  • Section 5: Reporting requirements

  • Finally, save or submit your application

  • 1. Application complete?

    Click on the large blue 'Save or Submit' button here at the bottom of the screen and save the confirmation email for your records.  We will have received your applications and there is no need to do anything else.

    2. Application only partially complete?  How to save it and edit it later: 

    1. You must first: enter your email address; acknowledge all the compulsory tick box statements; enter some text such as “To be completed later” in the compulsory free text boxes.
    2. If the above requirements are not fulfilled an error message will appear and you will not be able to save and edit your application.  When you have completed the above requirements and then wish to save and edit your application at a later time, click on the 'Save or Submit' button at the bottom of the form.
    3. You will then see an on screen message confirming that your application has been received.  This message will also contain a web link to your application. 
    4. You will also receive a confirmation email which will contains the link to your application. Keep this link safe.
    5. Click on this link to continue editing your application and then click on the 'Save or Submit' button to re-save your application.
    6. You may continue editing and saving your application up until the deadline. After this time, your application will be considered as 'submitted' and no further changes will be possible.
