  • As a Streetwork advocate, your role is to support and engage with a Young Person while in custody (not legal advice).

After completing this online form, the Streetwork support will be co-ordinated by our Youth Services Team - your relationship with the Young Person in custody starts and stops at the Police station.

Please always ensure that the Police contact Youth Legal Aid Hotline (1800 10 18 10) on behalf of the Young Person and encourage the Young Person to follow the advice provided by Legal Aid.

Please advise the Young Person that Streetwork case workers can assist with preparing them for court attendance, transport to/from court or related appointments, re-engagement with school, job seeking, drug & alcohol counselling, safe accommodation etc.

  • * Note - the Police can also provide the young person's date of birth, parent's contact details, and required identification details if not forthcoming from the young person.

  • Kickstart, Streetwork's outreach mentoring program is a goals based, empowerment program which is designed and structured for each Young Person to address the risk factors impacting them.  The success of the program relies on our ability to connect the Young Person with a Youth Worker who can best support their needs.  Please provide any information which might be helpful - the Young Person's family situation, personal and career goals, interests, hobbies etc.

It may be helpful to introduce the Young Person to our instagram account @streetworkaus which includes information about our activities and programs which may be of interest to them.

  • Please note:  If safe accommodation cannot be found, sending a Young Person to a juvenile detention centre may be considered as an option.  We recommend advocates remind Police of The Bail Line which can help to find accommodation (commonly known as a bail bed) for a Young Person who cannot return home following an arrest.

This service seeks to offer an alternative to the Young Person being sent to a juvenile detention centre. The service can be reached on 0457 559 930 between 8am and 4pm and 1300 224 555 between 4pm and 3am.

Please send any paperwork issued by the Police, including charge sheets to Streetwork info@streetwork.org.au.
