Overview
The Water Resources Department Hardship/Affordability Assistance Discount is an assistance program that helps eligible utility account holders reduce their monthly water and/or wastewater Base Facility Charges.
Hardship and affordability assistance discounts are applicable to Base Facility Charges equal to $2.50 per month for water service and/or $2.50 per month for wastewater service totaling no more than a $5.00 credit for each month of eligibility.
Eligibility
Eligible account holders must meet all criteria listed below:
- The Hillsborough County Water Resource bill must be in your name
- Your home must be an individually metered single-family residence
- This address must be your primary residence (you live at this address)
- You may not request more than one discount
Please have all information ready to be uploaded before starting this application process for every household member. You will be asked to provide these documents once you submit this form.
Identification (Current, valid Photo ID) for all members of the household - Approved verification types are listed below:
Adults:
- Driver’s license or State ID
- Immigration verification (green card)
- Military Photo ID; VA Identification card with DD214
- Passport; Certificate of Naturalization
- Permanent Resident Verification or Employment Authorization Card
Minors:
- Driver’s License or State ID
- Immigration verification (green card)
- Birth certificate
- Immunization records, with government seal or letterhead
- Passport
- Certificate of Naturalization
- Permanent Resident Verification
- Employment Authorization Card
Social Security Number Verification for all members of household - Approved verification types are listed below:
- U.S. Social Security Administration document (ex: SS card)
- Official document (on letterhead) from: Florida Department of Children and Families, U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs or U.S. Internal Revenue Service
Verification of Annual Income:
- Both pages of the previous years tax return
- OR Households that ONLY have a fixed Social Security income may upload their Social Security award letter or government issued printout. The monthly benefit will be annualized and used for income eligibility
Verification of Account Holder: (current bill statement)
Additional requirements may be necessary for eligibility determination depending on each household situation.
Things To Consider
To apply for the hardship affordability discount program, you must submit all required information online. Approval from the County is required to receive discount.
The Water Resources Department will notify participants 60 days prior to expiration to reapply.
