    Some of the following questions are asked because the donor or foundation providing funds stipulated how the scholarship should be awarded. Often, those awards are based on ethnic, gender, parenting, academic year, or other such qualifiers.

  • The Scholarships

  • The office of Teacher Education is offering the following scholarships for next academic year, not this current academic year. Applicants must be currently enrolled with a minimum of 3.0 GPA (unless noted otherwise).

    Please read all scholarship descriptions carefully. Certain scholarships have a writing requirement. When applying for one of those scholarships, you will be prompted to attach your written work on the last page of this application.

  • Leah D. Adams Endowment.

    Candidates must be graduate students, with preference given to doctoral students. Must submit a letter of application how funds will be used to further research goals, research proposal, and 1-2 page vita.

  • Gae E. Amorose Scholarship.

    The Gae E. Amorose Scholarship is for a full-time or part-time female undergraduate education major who has been admitted to the elementary teacher preparation program in the College of Education and has financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.

  • Bergoine/Annesser Scholarship.

    The Bergoine/Annesser Scholarship is for a female junior or senior studying to become an elementary teacher. The student must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be earning at least a portion of her college expenses.

  • Edith Calder Block Scholarship.

    The Edith Calder Block Scholarship is for a student studying early elementary education.

  • Barbara Jean Bragdon Elementary Education Endowed Scholarship.

    Candidates must write an essay on the importance of elementary education, with preference given to students from the Warren Consolidated School System.

  • Bess Browne Scholarship.

    The Bess Browne Scholarship is for an undergraduate elementary education major who has financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.

  • Thomas C. and Nancy J. Chwalik Endowed Scholarship.

    Candidates should be studying to become an elementary teacher, with preference given to students with demonstrated interest in promoting men in teaching from the Wayne/Westland school district.

  • Eudora Estabrook Scholarship.

    The Eudora Estabrook Scholarship is for a prospective elementary education teacher who has demonstrated a financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.

  • Bernice Louise Farley Scholarship.

    The Bernice Louise Farley Scholarship is for an undergraduate early education student who has at least a 2.5 grade point average.

  • Gwin E. Ferrington Scholarship.

    The Gwin E. Ferrington Scholarship is for a sophomore, junior, or senior elementary or secondary education major who demonstrates financial need. The student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

  • Furlotte Twins Scholarship.

    The Furlotte Twins Scholarship is for a junior or senior undergraduate student who is enrolled in the elementary education program in the College of Education and exhibits promise, creativity and academic conscientiousness. The student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preferenceis given to a twin.

  • Greasley-Mich Scholarship.

    The Greasley-Mich Scholarship is for a junior or senior undergraduate student studying to become an elementary or secondary teacher.

  • Gustine Family Scholarship.

    The Gustine Family Scholarship is for a junior or senior undergraduate student studying to become an elementary teacher who has financial need as determined by the College of Education. The student must be a single parent and have at least a 2.0 grade point average.

  • Gerald J. Henry Scholarship.

    The Gerald Henry Scholarship is for an undergraduate elementary math major with a minimum 3.2 GPA who has financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.

  • Gail Ardis Hughes Elementary Education Scholarship.

    The Gail Ardis Hughes Elementary Education Scholarship is for a student studying to become an elementary teacher who is in good academic standing with at least a 2.0 grade point average. Preference is given to a student focusing on grades 1- 3 with emphasis on reading and writing skills. Selection criteria may include the student’s ability with young children and promise of leadership as discerned through class work.

  • Phyllis and Elsie Kalmbach Scholarship.

    The Phyllis and Elsie Kalmbach Scholarship is for a senior elementary education major enrolled in the teacher education program in the College of Education and who exhibits financial need.

  • Margaret R. Esche Lee Scholarship.

    The Margaret R. Esche Lee Scholarship is for a junior or senior education major studying music or upper elementary education.

  • Jean Taylor Lyman Scholarship.

    The Jean Taylor Lyman Scholarship is to support students enrolled in Early Childhood Education undergraduate and graduate programs. Eligible students must be admitted to and enrolled in either the Early Childhood Education bachelor’ s program or the EarlyChildhood Education master’s program. Undergraduate GPA must be at least a 3.5 and the graduate GPA must be at least 3.7. Applicants must write a two-page essay on why they are pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education.

  • Mary Jane and Ed McEachern Endowed Scholarship.

    Candidates must be a graduate of Ypsilanti High School and a junior/senior majoring in elementary education.

  • Kenneth and Hazel Olsen Scholarship.

    The Kenneth and Hazel Olsen Scholarship is awarded to a freshperson in elementary education from Fowlerville or Howell area or Livingston County. There must be a minimum GPA of 2.5. If the student meets all other criteria except GPA, the GPA requirement may be waived.

  • Karen Menke Paciorek Endowed Early Childhood Education Scholarship.

    Candidates must have taken at least 60 hours and show a commitment to early childhood education through previous work or volunteer experience with young children.

  • Louisa Palmer Scholarship.

    The Louisa Palmer Scholarship is for a student enrolled in the elementary teacher education program, with preference given to a student who intends to teach kindergarten.

  • Albert A. Riddering Endowed Scholarship.

    The Riddering Endowed Scholarship will provide aide to students who plan to teach and earned 25 or more semester hours at EMU. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

  • Kirk and Sharon Profil Roosevelt Legacy Scholarship.

  • Elizabeth Root and Irene Allen Scholarship.

    The Elizabeth Root and Irene Allen Scholarship is for an undergraduate or graduate student admitted to the College of Education with at least a 3.0 grade point average for an undergraduate student or a 3.0 grade point average for a graduate student. The student must be interested in using children’ s books in teaching, especially international children’ s books, and write a 1-2 page narrative discussing interest in using children’ s books in teaching and how he or she plans to use children’s literature as an educator.

  • Jack and Joanne Stapleton Endowed Scholarship.

    Candidates must provide an essay describing financial need, must have taken at least 60 credit hours at EMU, and graduate of Livonia or Southfield Michigan high schools.

  • Scott W. and McDonna Street Scholarship.

    The Scott W. and McDonna Street Scholarship is given to a student who has been admitted to the teacher education program in the College of Education who has at least a 3.0 grade point average and has financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid. Preference is given to students involved in extracurricular activities. Applicants for this scholarship must write a 1-2 page essay explaining Progressive Education and how the philosophy will affect their teaching.

  • Margaret E. Wise #1 Scholarship.

    The Margaret E. Wise #1 Scholarship is for a student, with preference given to an early elementary curriculum student.

  • Dorcas Wolf Scholarship in Elementary Education.

    The Dorcas Wolf Scholarship in Elementary Education is for an undergraduate or post baccalaureate student enrolled in the College of Education, studying to become an elementary school teacher and in good academic standing.
