The Towanda Lions Club is proud to offer a $750 scholarship in memory of its members who have passed away since the club’s founding in 1975. This scholarship is for students pursuing a career in a skilled trades program. Eligible fields of study include, but are not limited to:
Carpentry, Cosmetology, Dental Assisting, Electrician Work, Heavy Equipment Operation, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning), Machining, Masonry, Mechanics, Plumbing, Printing, Welding
Eligibility Requirements:
- High school senior graduating this school year & planning to enroll in a skilled trades program this fall
- Live in the Towanda area (zip code 61776) or Towanda Township.
- You must have a C average or higher in your high school coursework (verified by your transcript).
- Your completed application must be submitted by March 15, 2025.
This is a one-time scholarship; however, if you are not selected in one year, you may reapply in future years as long as you are still pursuing a degree or certification in a skilled trade.
Here’s a breakdown of what you need to prepare and how to organize it efficiently:
Applicant Information:
- High School Activities: Include the name of each activity, a brief description (if necessary), and the years of participation.
- Community Service Activities: Mention the organization, role, description of service, and the years of participation.
- Employment History: Provide the employer’s name, your position, main responsibilities, and dates of employment.
- Biographical Profile: Write a concise profile about yourself (200 words or fewer). Focus on your background, goals, and what makes you a strong candidate.
Documents to Collect and Format:
- High School Transcript: Request an official copy from your school. Ensure it’s signed or sealed if required.
- Two Letters of Recommendation:
- One from a teacher, counselor, or administrator.
- One from a non-relative within the Towanda area. Contact your chosen individuals early, provide them with information about the application, and ensure they format the letters appropriately.
- Fall Class Schedule: Obtain a copy from your school or counselor. If not finalized, request a preliminary version.
Final Formatting and Storage:
- Save all written lists and the biographical profile in PDF or Microsoft Word format.
- Organize everything in clearly labeled files, e.g., High_School_Transcript.pdf, Recommendation_Letter_Teacher.docx.
