GOAL
The Monterey Peninsula does not have a history in studio glassblowing. So we are providing access for local creatives to see high quality glass art being made by artists from around the globe, to inspire more local development of local glassworking, and to push the extremes of what could be made using our facilities and recycled, sustainable materials.
RESIDENCY DATES
Dates are flexible based on both artists schedules, MGW will host 3 separate residencies: Spring, Summer, and Winter. We ask for 2 complete weeks including two full weekends, as we will have audience events during those periods. But otherwise we can be flexible to the needs of the artist.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Demonstrated skill in the artist's native medium.
2. Donation of a single piece or limited series of works, made during residency for auction. This will support our 1% for the Planet charitable mission to support climate change activism (The Monterey Bay Aquarium). All proceeds from the sales of auctioned pieces will directly fund the next years residencies.
3. Willingness to allow Monterey GlassWorks patron support community visitors to view demos/shows/events/etc surrounding the residency.
OPTIONS
Monterey Glassworks desires to make meaningful contribution to innovation in the glass community, and to help the resident grow their own impact. If that means helping them build a piece of community art, we'll do it. If it means helping them launch a line of collaborative works, we'll do it....create an educational series, you name it. Point is, we are very open to all manner of residency proposals; providing the proposed residency expands awareness of glass art in the Monterey area, and lifts financial benefits in support of fighting climate change.
