I would like to invite you to participate in this research project which forms part of my PhD research. Before you decide whether you want to take part, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what your participation will involve. Please take time to read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. Ask me if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information.
The purpose of the project is to investigate the extent to which the commercial, not-for-profit and fringe theatres relate, looking at the movement of workers among them. The PhD will also be an opprtunity to study how the three spheres influence workers’ career trajectories, and how differently this occurs based on an individual worker’s identity. The PhD will also reflect on the policy implication emerging from the results.
To do so, I have collected anonymous curricula vitae from Mandy (a free online database) to research the UK theatre work networks for quantitative analysis. In this second phase, I am conducting interviews with actors and other theatre industry workers to collect their personal experiences, to give depth to the quantitative data and to reflect on the possible drivers of change.
If you would like to participate and contribute anonymously to the research project, please complete this brief expression of interest form. Please read the information sheet about the project and complete the form based on your work experience. Once you submit your espression of interest, I will email you and ask you to complete the research consent form (you will be given full details on the project and your right to withdraw) and arrange an interview with you at a convenient time. If you need any additional information or have any question, please email me at manfredi.de_bernard@kcl.ac.uk.
