[Click to Expand] PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Howe Sound Women’s Centre (HSWC) understands the importance of being inclusive with the individuals that we support. We recognize that gender nonconforming and gender diverse individuals (including, but not limited to trans, non-binary and Two-Spirit) have less access to resources and face more barriers than cis-men/women; and that the intersections of race, ethnicity, culture, class, age, disability, and/or other status put individuals at a greater disadvantage who therefore experience more barriers, adversity, harm, and discrimination. In the past year, the HSWC has been taking a deeper look at what inclusivity means and looks like in our organization and who would most benefit from our support. The Gender Diversity Inclusion Project is developing an inclusion strategy, materials and policies that will shift the organization’s programs and services to be inclusive to all individuals that identify as gender nonconforming and gender diverse and who are experiencing violence, abuse, and/or conflict in their lives. In planning our approach to program activities for the Inclusion Project, it is important to consider who we are hoping will access our programs, how they will want to access our programs, what kind of support and information they may need from our programs, and what kinds of trauma-informed care is required for us to effectively support all individuals that identify as gender nonconforming and gender diverse.
