Introduction
Welcome to Blacksburg Refugee Partnership (BRP). As a volunteer, you are now a part of our diverse team dedicated to improving the lives of refugees resettling in our community. This Code of Conduct serves as a guide for your journey with us, outlining our expectations and your responsibilities in this crucial role.
Scope
This Code applies to all volunteers, regardless of the duration, nature of service, or location of their work within BRP. It encompasses all activities conducted under the BRP umbrella, both in person and online.
Respect for Diversity
BRP is committed to fostering an environment of inclusivity and respect. All volunteers and the people we serve must treat each other with dignity, respect, and kindness, regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, national origin, or disability.
Nonsectarian Principle
BRP is a strictly nonsectarian organization. While we respect the right of all individuals to their personal beliefs, volunteers may not use their role within BRP to promote personal religious ideologies or beliefs.
Confidentiality
Volunteers are trusted with sensitive and confidential information about the refugees we serve as well as other volunteers. It is crucial to respect and protect this information unless its disclosure is authorized or legally mandated.
Professionalism
As representatives of BRP, volunteers are expected to act with honesty, integrity, and accountability in all dealings, showing respect for the individuals we serve, colleagues, and partners.
Conflict of Interest
Volunteers must avoid any actions that could lead to or imply a conflict of interest. If a potential conflict arises, it should be disclosed to the BRP Board (board@blacksburgrefugeepartnership.org) as soon as possible. Examples might include use of a BRP role for personal or professional gain.
Communication
Communication, whether online or offline, should always be respectful and reflect the values of BRP. Hateful speech, discrimination, or harassment will not be tolerated.
Reporting Procedure
If you observe or experience a breach of this Code of Conduct, we encourage you to report it to any member of the BRP Board (board@blacksburgrefugeepartnership.org). We are committed to creating a safe and secure environment for everyone.
Non-Compliance
Non-compliance with this Code of Conduct will result in consequences, which may include a discussion of the behavior, up to and including termination of volunteer service.
