Lorie Hacker, DNP, MSNed, NP-C, RN, CNE, faith community nurse
Dr. Lorie Hacker has been a registered nurse for over 22 years and has worked in a variety of bedside roles, including emergency, geriatrics, medical-surgical and community health. She is an adult geriatric primary care nurse practitioner in palliative and hospice medicine. She has developed multiple community-based health initiatives including Latino and Hispanic prenatal care coordination and developed faith community nurse education regarding culturally competent care. She has been a faith community nurse for 15 years, facilitates the foundations for faith community nursing course and is a board member and Practice committee chair of Faith Community Nurses International. She serves on the board for the Indiana Center for Parish Nursing. She is a nurse educator, and has presented internationally and nationally on the topics of clinical simulation in nursing, faith community nursing, and palliative care. She is passionate about advance care planning and spiritual care in health care. She has completed numerous nursing degrees as well as a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree where she implemented a quality improvement project for advance care planning in faith communities. She is married with five adult children and resides in central Indiana.
In this interactive program, attendees will explore culturally congruent practice as outlined in the Faith Community Nurse Scope and Standards of Practice. Attendees will be able to develop practical strategies for culturally congruent care and engage in self-reflection and a cultural assessment of their faith community.
Objectives
As a result of attending this symposium, participants will be able to:
1. Explore the Health Ministries Association & American Nurses Association Faith Community Nurses Scope and Standards
2. Define culturally congruent practice
3. Identify implications for Faith Community Nursing practice
4. Develop practical strategies for culturally congruent care
