DETAILS ON VOLUNTEER ROLES
1. Course Setup and Maintenance - Setup fencing, v-boards and hand raking.
2. Course/Stadium Marshalls - Spectator and team support access control on course, in the stadium and the general site in compliance with COVID plans.
3. Stadium Setup - Setup v-boards, fencing and whiskers.
4. Biathlon Range Recording - recording athlete shooting results.
5. Biathlon Range & Targets - set up of the range, preparation of targets, reset and maintenance
6. Biathlon Penalty Loop - Record penalty loops completed by each athlete
7. Biathlon Equipment Check - Perform safety checks on rifles and ammunition
8. Timing - Assist with backup timing plan. Attach and remove timing chips in Start or Finish areas. Result runners, collation of shooting and penalty loop results (sticker room).
9. Controller - On course, judge of technique, record athlete laps skied and any other violations.
10. Start/Finish/Porter - Assist and organize athletes in the start/finish area, provide refreshments; care and transportation of athlete belongings.
11. Ceremonies/Pageantry - Setup/takedown of medal ceremony podiums, backdrops and inflatable arches. Must be physically fit and able to lift/move 50+ pounds.
12. Downtown Opening Ceremony - Setup/takedown of podiums/backdrops and crowd control in front of the Civic Centre on evening of December 3rd.
13. Team Compound - Assist with setup of team trailers in the days before and after the event and provide team support during race days.
14. Doping Control - Notify, accompany and chaperone athletes selected for testing. If no Doping Control is on site, you will be redeployed as Marshalls.
15. Competition Secretariat/Race Office - Staffing the event Race Office. Setup and assist with Team Captains' Meetings. Jury Support. Bib sorting and distribution.
16. Alpine Insurance Volunteer Centre - Sign in/out volunteers, answer general questions as well as distribution and collection of volunteer bibs and radios.
17. Team Services - heavy lifting required! Van drivers (Class 2 licence required), meet arrivals at Calgary Airport and CNC to help load/unload team equipment (Nov 28-Dec 1 and Dec 12- 13).
18. Accreditation/Team Services - Work with accreditation and provide team support on site. Act as hosts and/or interpreters for teams for the duration of the team visit (approx. Nov 28 - Dec 13).
19. Media Relations - Assist media members as required. Ensure media members have web access when required.
20. Pre and Post Race Construction - Building and Installing fences, banners and other projects as required.
21. COVID Health & Safety - Cleaning and disinfecting, supply of PPE and compliance with regulations (medical background not required).
22. Athlete Support - Supervise and support the athlete dining area, supervision and temporary care for service animals where required.
23. Anywhere I'm needed - We always have areas that need some extra support.
