A Guide for Understanding Appendix 16
Appendix 16 is a key document in the process leading to Commissioning, Ordination (Seminary or Apprentice Track), Commissioned Minister Track to Ordination, Recognition of Standing & Ordination, or UCC Partner Standing. Appendix 16 is a tool used to track a Candidate's progress as they gain knowledge and skills in the 16 Ministerial Practices/Competencies.
The 16 Ministerial Practices/Competencies come recommended by our General Commission on Ministry (GCOM) and are used by all Disciples Regions to evaluate a Candidate's readiness to serve as a Commissioned or Ordained Minister with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
The Candidate for Ministry will utilize Appendix 16 to determine their own strengths in Ministry and areas where growth and skill-building are needed.
- For a Candidate pursuing Commissioned Ministry: The Candidate's Ministry Support Team (MST) will track their progress in the Commissioning process as a direct report to the Ministry Discernment Team (MDT).
- For a Candidate purusing Ordained Ministry through the Seminary or Apprentice Track: The Candidate's Ordination Nurture Team (ONT) will record their progress in the Ordination process as a direct report to the Regional Commission on the Order of Ministry (RCOM).
- For a Minister purusing the Commissioned Minister Track to Ordination: The Minister's Mentor will record their progress in the Ordination process as a direct report to the Regional Commission on the Order of Ministry (RCOM).
Appendix 16 outlines the 16 Ministerial Practices/Competencies, describing each in a few sentences followed by a series of benchmarks to further define their scope. This allows the Candidate to stay focused on achieving specific goals as they prepare to be Commissioned or Ordained as a Disciples of Christ (DOC) Minister.
