The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Mid-America
Appendix 16:
Assessment of Growth in Ministry
An individual's growth in Ministry, as a Candidate for Commissioning or Ordination, is assessed according to the 16 Ministerial Practices/Competencies of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Appendix 16 is a tool that tracks a Candidate's progress in the Commissioning or Ordination process as they gain knowledge and skills in each of the 16 Ministerial Practices/Competencies. It assists with identifying strengths in Ministry as well as areas where growth and skill-building are needed. This allows a Candidate to stay focused on achieving specific goals as they prepare to become a Commissioned or Ordained Minister.
These 16 Ministerial Practices/Competencies come recommended by our General Commission on Ministry (GCOM) and are used by all Disciples Regions to evaluate an individual's readiness to serve as a Commissioned or Ordained Minister with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
- For a Candidate pursuing Commissioning with the Ministry Discernment Team (MDT): Both the Candidate and their Ministry Support Team (MST) will track individual progress in the Commissioning process as a direct report to the Ministry Discernment Team (MDT).
- For a Candidate purusing Ordination through the Seminary or Apprentice Track: Both the Candidate and their Ordination Nurture Team (ONT) will record progress in the Ordination process as a direct report to the Regional Commission on the Order of Ministry (RCOM).
- For a Candidate purusing Ordination through the Commissioned Minister Track: Both the Candidate and their Mentor will record progress in the Ordination process as a direct report to the Regional Commission on the Order of Ministry (RCOM).
