The USTA tournament application process is intended to promote play, permit the ranking of players based on an accepted standard; encourage an orderly schedule of tournaments that accommodates the reasonable needs of players and aspires to provide high ethical standards in the sport of tennis. A tournament sanction is not a right, but rather a privilege based on the capability of a club or organization to fulfill their obligations in running any level of tournament properly.
An approved tournament application for a sanctioned event indicates that the tournament:
- is an official USTA approved tournament.
- will be considered for standing and/or ranking purpose by the applicable USTA National, Sectional or District organization(s).
When a tournament application is approved for an organization, it is on the condition that all information supplied through the tournament application is true and the conditions of play will be followed as described.
As the Tournament Director and/or Organizer of an official USTA approved tournament in the Southeastern Michigan District, I agree to be compliant with the following terms and conditions:
- Tournament play will follow USTA National, Midwest Section and Southeastern Michigan District rules and regulations.
- Tournament Director and Organization will have USTA Membership valid through the date of all sanctioned tournaments in 2025.
- The Tournament Director, Tournament Committee and desk staff will be in compliance with current USTA Safe Play required training, certification, and background screening.
- The Tournament Director of record, or designated certified Assistant Tournament Director, will be on site and available during the event.
- Desk staff will be knowledgeable regarding USTA rules and tournament regulations and courteous to participants and families.
- The Tournament Director and staff will treat all players equally and with respect.
- Proper draw types, scoring formats, and other prescribed requirements will be followed exactly as mandated by the District for the type of tournament.
CHANGES AFTER TOURNAMENT APPROVAL: Tournament Applications are approved based on the details as stated in the tournament application submitted. No changes to the specific tournament details may be made after it has been approved by a District Administrator including draw limits, formats of play, tournament type or level, age division events offered, tournament dates or conditions of play.
Any requests to change the events offered or change in date MUST be made to the District Administrators well in advance of the scheduled starting date of the tournament to be considered.
It is expected that tournaments be held as scheduled, and main and consolation draws be played to completion when applicable. The District Administrator must be notified in the event an entire tournament is cancelled and notification must be posted on the tournament home page. There are no refunds of sanction fees.
