Industry Issues
The Industry Issues Committee is made up of roofing contractors who share what’s really happening in the field — so WSRCA can bring those concerns to the table and push for solutions. These can be anything that affects your day-to-day work: new code changes, price hikes, insurance problems, labor shortages, confusing inspection rules, or anything else making life harder for contractors. Your feedback goes straight to the committee that meets several times a year to represent members like you. You don’t need to have the “right answer” — just let us know what challenges you’re running into.
What issues or challenges are you currently seeing in the roofing industry?
For example: insurance companies rejecting claims or canceling coverage for older roofs, shortages or price increases in materials, new local fire or energy code changes creating confusion, customers delaying or refusing payments, labor or immigration challenges, or unclear manufacturer testing and warranty requirements.
Low-Slope Roofing Issues
The Low-Slope Committee focuses on commercial and flat-roof systems — things like TPO, PVC, coatings, insulation, and code compliance. The group studies product performance, installation details, and changes in energy or fire regulations that affect how low-slope roofs are designed and maintained. Your feedback helps WSRCA identify real-world problems and create resources, training, or technical bulletins that make contractors’ jobs easier and safer.
What challenges or technical issues are you seeing with low-slope roofing?
For example: problems with parapet height or vent terminations, issues installing or maintaining roof coatings, confusion about new insulation or energy code requirements, concerns about fire risk with certain materials, or performance issues with TPO or other membrane systems.
Steep-Slope Roofing Issues
The Steep-Slope Committee focuses on residential and pitched roofing systems like shingles, tile, and metal. The group reviews installation challenges, ventilation standards, code updates, solar panel integration, and how new materials perform over time. Your feedback helps identify real-world problems that WSRCA can address through training, technical guidance, and committee discussions.
What challenges or trends are you seeing with steep-slope roofing?
For example: problems installing shingles around solar panels or vents, premature shingle wear or granule loss, challenges with underlayments or ventilation on re-roofs, changes to code requirements, or confusion over product compatibility or warranties.
Waterproofing Issues
The Waterproofing Committee focuses on systems that protect buildings from water intrusion — including below-grade waterproofing, plaza decks, coatings, and transitions between assemblies. The group reviews flashing methods, product compatibility, warranties, and code requirements to improve real-world performance. Your feedback helps WSRCA identify problem areas and create guidance to help contractors avoid leaks and warranty issues.
What challenges or technical issues are you seeing with waterproofing systems or specialty applications?
For example: problems with flashing irregular penetrations, confusion about blindside or below-grade products, questions about NDL warranties, challenges integrating waterproofing with weather barriers or roof assemblies, or unclear manufacturer guidance.
Safety & Health
The Safety & Health Committee is focused on helping every roofing company create a safer, stronger, and healthier workplace. We look for real problems happening in the field — things like confusing OSHA rules, new enforcement practices, training gaps, heat illness risks, fall protection challenges, and even mental health or substance use issues affecting our workforce. Your input helps WSRCA shape new training resources, webinars, and tool-box talk materials that directly address what contractors are facing right now. Please share what safety challenges you’re seeing on your jobsites — whether they’re regulatory, practical, or cultural. Every comment helps make our industry safer.
What safety or health challenges are you seeing in the roofing industry or within your company?
For example: OSHA inspections or rule changes causing confusion, heat exposure, fall protection, or PPE compliance issues, subcontractor or crew training gaps, insurance or workers comp safety requirements that don’t make sense, mental health, stress, or substance use affecting your team, or new tools, apps, or programs that have improved your safety culture.
Other Topics
This section is for anything that doesn’t fit into a specific committee category. You can use it to share ideas or concerns about membership, the Young Roofing Professionals group, the WSRCA website, the Western Roofing Expo, communications, or any other part of the association experience. Your comments help us improve how we serve members and the industry.
Do you have any other topics, ideas, or suggestions you’d like WSRCA to consider?
For example: feedback about membership programs, website resources, expo events, communications, or anything else that could help improve WSRCA for all members.
